Like Jncomutt said that turbo is way to small. If you aren't going twins the exhaust backpressure will be way high. Now were am I going to mount that 74gts wait the gt47-88 no the pt106 that will get it done.
The photo that Jncomutt posted was one of the turbos I was playing with for my car. I have since decided to use one turbo instead of two A/R of .42 therefore the change to the larger turbo with A/R of .96.
The new larger turbo is a Borg-Warner T04b. My engine is a 3800 NA out of a 99 Buick. The way to calculate the horsepower from a turbo using 10 pounds boost is as follows 231 Cubic Inches X 10 pounds boost X (14.7 + 10 LB Boost) = 399 BHP. I could push it for up to 560 hp since the turbo will support it but 399 hp should be just fine for my application.
The boost will begin around 2200 RPM with max boost at WOT topping out at 6000 RPM
It is an interesting process. The best book to guide anyone through this process is called Maximum Boost by Corky Bell. He has been building turbo applications for about 30 years and knows his stuff.

Dave

P.S. you would need to send me the 3800 s/c lower intake as a reference to enshure a perfect fit. And that way I could send it back pre-assembeld if you would like.

Believe it or not... Sheet metal wise I could come up with an upper and lower intake much like the one above using the lower intake from the 3800 as a reference. As far as clearing the hood I would need a few measurements but it could be done.

P.S. one like that would take a little while. meant to press edit the first time but there no one better to quote than yourself

There is really no advantage to running a custom intake, unless you redesign the lower and implement some type of runner ram design. Most guys just make up boxes, and have it sit on the lower intake... its not that great.
I have the camaro intake on my Pre-Turbo setup.. It flows a hell of a lot better than a gutted SC and it won't warp like the plastic could. Just something else to consider..

The best person to ask about turbocharging a N/A 3800 would be Ryan from Sinister Performance. He's been running a turbo 3800 for quite some time. As for the twin turbo 3800 run by ZZ Performance, I believe that its an SC engine with about $20,000 in modifications. Zoomer has run a 9.01 in the 1/4 mile iwith it in the heavier GTP.

Dennis, there is alot of false things in that post. Go do some accurate research in the area and write a 2 page report.
The twin turbo car (into 8's now) has a stock bottom end, stock diff, and "fiero swap" style axles suggested by me. There are little "mods" other than the fact the motor runs serious boost, efficent power adders and cooling, and the fact its a 100% tube frame race car....

The T04b is fitting up just fine. Joe has been coaching me through the process. I am at the stage of selecting larger injectors. I hope to have it completed before the end of August. I know it has taken a long time to build this 3800, I just wanted to move forward with caution. Really the hardest part is just believing in the project enough to do it. I picked up a new APEXi Waste Gate that will add a little excitement. An intercooler, stainlesssteel tubing, a Tial Blow off valve and a lot of skinned knuckles.
Any suggestions on a Vacuum block to tie everything together?

Dave
