The 6-speed wasn't available in '04, just '03 according to GM Powertrain. I did find that they used a 6-speed on a 4-cyl Saab in 2005 though. The ratios are the F40 ratios, so I guess its the F40 with an ecotec pattern? http://media.gm.com/divisio...o/saab/9-3/index.htm I found a reference here that also indicates the '03 6-speed was the F40, and may have had synchro problems that year: http://www.saablink.net/for...d.php?t=11493&page=3
I don't know why its not listed here at all: http://media.gm.com/divisio...ual_trans/index.html They do list a 6-speed manual as being available for the Saab 9-3 in the 2003 product information. They do not for '04.

It was offered every year since 2003 for the Saab, you have to search in one of the following sections to find confirmation and ratios where offered: powertrain, vehicle specifications, manual transmissions. Some of the links will show up on the left side of the page after the initial selection.
The strongest F40 is linked to the AWD Saab and has a very tall first gear with a 3.76 final drive behind the 2.8L, same rating but a 5423 lb max vehicle weight vs. the first design 3527 lb. Not sure if they'll work this way since they are nested but here are a few GM links;

Look again. That's the site I linked to in my post above. The ratios not listed for 2003, and no 6-speed transaxle transmission is even listed under manual transmissions for either '03 or '04. For '03 it is only mentioned as an option for the 4-cyl Saab 9-3 but there are no other details. This 6-speed may be a different transmission altogether from the F40, but more likely it's the first application of the F40. it may have different ratios. Remember, the F40 is normally used on the HF V6 and in the G6 GTP.. but these Saabs in '03 had Ecotec 4-cyls. The High Feature V6 was not available until 2004.
A friend of mine back in college had a turbo Ecotec Saab with a 6-speed.. unfortunately he doesn't have the car any more, so I can't get any details on it.

Read the transmission options for the 03 9-3 under specifications;
For all the attention GM's marketing idiots paid to it, it's like the transmission didn't exist...
These guys might be able to help as I believe a lot of that info was either proprietary or Saab PR focused since that was at such an early time in the GM Saab team up. The Saab forum may have more specifics also.
Relax it's not that much of an issue, option or not it was available in 03 and standard for the Aero in 04, so there are ratios and RPO numbers somewhere. The only thing we've proved here is that GM's website is not the best place for the information Will is trying to obtain.

I thank you for getting those extra decimal places, and is there any chance of finding out for sure if the G6 GT's final was 3.55000000:1, with a 71:20, or 3.5454545:1, with a 78:22? PLEASE!!!!
