The saga continues I have been slowly building up my 3.4 DOHC swap and reached a major milestone. I have completed my exhaust and stuck the unit into the car.

other side

In the car nothing hooked up yet.

The work continues, Hurry up Spring. (We had 87 inches of snow in 3 weeks new record)

That looks like the best solution for keeping the trunk, using stock manifolds. I wonder if you could fit a small catalytic convert. after the first bend coming out of the manifold?

holey moley~!
i love it.
ive always admired the 3.4 tdc 210 hp outta efficiency not boost.
boost is just another way of increasing engine size without changine dimensions.
you got to help me build one of these while im at college next summer.
PS: you have a plus your way from the offer on that vacuum thingy even if i dont need it
thank u
i see now why u and paul didnt like my thingy ma` bobber
i like yours though
edit: just noticed your oil fill cap....
you should leave it there and have a fill door inside of the cabin made outta brushed aluminum

God, I miss my old DOHC. Looks good, is there a cat on there as well?

Edit, I see evidence of an 88 cradle in a pre 88 car too. I think I'd tidy up the tops of those strut towers though by removing the flared part for the old strut center and filling in the holes with some weld and sheet metal. Seems a shame to spoil the end result for a little bit of work.

I think you're going to need a heat shield for the alt.
Make sure you heat protect the harness as it comes to the alt, VSS and reverse switch as well

Looks real good - I wish I had another one to do.

The block is Iron and the Heads and Cam towers are Aluminum.

It is hard to see in the pictures but there is a cooling duct that runs from the Alt down to almost the bottom of the oil pan all the wiring is routed down to the bottom of the oil pan well away from the manifold which does have both ceramic coating and a heat shield on it.

The engine is a 96 Chevy Z28 motor with a 97 PCM to run it with OBD II.

I think there is room for an auto trans. The exhaust pipe is very close to the rear cross member so there is alot of room.

How did you manage to squeeze that muffler between the cradle and the heat shield on the trunk wall on a 88? It couldn't be done on mine. I had to make a minor modification to the muffler to clear the cradle.

This is what I had to do to get it to fit. It was still an extreemly tight squeeze.

final result:

i love this engine a lot
aluminum heads eh! i know those have lots of potential.
iron block is pretty cool to because of the durability and easier to bore out/work around.
what kind of redline are you working around ?
estimated horses and torque?
i love these motors soo much... oops said it already but you get the point...

Stock it's suppose to have 215HP and 230 foot pounds of torque. The stock engine Red Lines at 7000 rpm. I am not sure what to expect but I will post numbers when I get it dyno'd.

My exhaust is a tight fit too. I have not installed the heat shield yet and may use a Asbestos blanket in the truck under the carpet ( haven't decided yet). I did notice that your exhaust is like the standard Fiero exhaust with the inlet to the muffler on the bottom and the outlets on the top. I looked at doing that way but found that the radius for the outlets were to tight so I reversed inlet, outlet which may have given me more room?
