It's no longer cold enough to give me an excuse to put off taking my 88 GT passenger door inner panel off to replace the power mirror.

While I'm in there, based on what I've read here, I should clean the crud out of some window channels (?) and re-grease with - what? Likewise, the power lock? Same stuff? I recall the term "white grease", which means nothing to me. "Grease", to me, means the grey or red stuff that lubes ball joints, etc.

Lastly, should I squirt a bunch of WD-40 in and around the window motor, wipe off the excess, and call it "refurbished"? Or do I need to actually disassemble anything around the motor while cleaning?

Thanks!

Once you have everything cleaned, use a universal grease for the window tracks & components. Wheel bearing grease is too thick. Get a can of spray lithium (that's the white grease they're talking about) & shoot it on all the lock & latch mechanism.

Door locks, use something graphite based or plain old white lithium grease, same with the window tracks. I wouldn't use WD-40, wears off too quickly. I'd leave the motor alone unless you are having trouble with it, the WD-40 can and probably will thin out the grease used and give you trouble.

I like to use motorcycle chain lube, it sticks on the tracks and it also keeps anything from rusting.

Lithium - like, the battery stuff? Joke. Lithium [white] it is, and don't mess with a working motor. No personal lubricant, either.

Many thanks!

The secrete to getting the windows to fly up and down (quick Rambling mossy more like it) is to clean out the tracks REALLY good ,, the verticle track is difficult to clean unless you remove it ..
I used a muti purpose automotive grease this is actually to heavy ,, the spray on grease mention here would be better ,,Lubriplate would be the top choice but few ever use this product..
you can clean the vertical track with out removing ..use brake cleaner fluid to clean out as much crap as possible get it clean it makes a big difference..
use some old rags and get both tracks as clean as possible if you take the time to do this correctly ,,it will pay dividends..
the motor gears are to difficult to reach ..
I tried with a mechanics mirror and a rag on a stickdid not work.
you can reach to the rear of the horizonal track by using a cleaner soaked rag wraped around a metal coat hanger (frustrating job)

I agree, spray lithium. The original stuff, as your finding out, turns to glop after time.
