For those that have run the 3800SC II with the alt in the stock location, how did you solve the problem of the belt routing. Did you put in a PS pump as an idler or did you have a better solution?
I put on a gutted Power steering pump and used the stock routeing for the belts. I am able to start the engine using this set up but I do not know if the gutted pump will cause a problem in the long run because the longest the engine has run is 5min and has only left the drive way once for an one min drive.

That will only work for a while as lack of lubrication will cause the bearings in thre PS pump body to wear quickly. You can install a PS delete pulley/bracket from WCF and Fieroaddiction and that will solve the porblem or fabricate your own idler backet and pulley. .

I figured that there would be a problem with the pump seizing. I will have to keep a close eye on it and get a bypass pulley for when it fails
Without some oil in that pump it will fail very quick.
I brazed up the holes on the pump (put a washer on the reservoir side and brazed it closed and then brazed the small hole in the pressure side threaded plug) and then filled it with synchromesh. Plenty lubed. I did recently build up a delete pulley. It cost me a day (mostly hanging out at Napa looking at parts books for the pulley) and the project ended up costing only $5.00 less than fieroaddiction's version. Go figure...
Below is a photo of my belt routing. The tensioner for the accessory belt has been changed to a grooved pulley. The tensioner for the supercharger is for a GTP.
The accessory belt I used is a Gatorback 40060835 - 6PK2120 and the supercharger belt is a Gatorback 4060660 -6PK1675. The grooved Idler pulley is Gates # 38009 or Goofyear # 49003.
I hope this helps.

Thanks Stephen and Bill. This is the way to go. Are you getting any squealing on this setup? Nice link Mstangs...

Cool. I thought about trying something like that but I wasn't sure if there would be problems with the belt stretching and burning up but it sounds like you haven't had any.
Is that the 2000+ alt setup? If not would this still be possible on one?
Thanks

As it appears close to the the water pump pulley the tensioner on the belt routing in the picture above appears to have very little adjustment clearance. I might have concerns about having sufficient tension on the belt but since it is reported to work well, it should work. Here is how we do them:
This method requires a repositioning of the spring in the tensioner arm housing but is a low mount scheme. However, this low mount can be done by anyone as its a simple install using just a couple of spacers, bolts and some common strip steel that you can purchase at Home Depot or Lowes.
