Well ,I did it. The rest came out ok except for #4. Can someone link me to a thread or tell me how to fix this without taking the motor out.

same thing happened on my 84 i was restoring...happened to about 3 of the plugs.....i used an allen key method to remove the plug thread on a few of them. This was after hours and hours of battling with it and using everything in my arsenal. Whatever you can jam in there and be able to turn it out with force should work. Also helps to bathe em in PB blaster as well.

A former coworker of mine was in the same situation performing a tune-up on a full size GM. Only one plug out of the 8 did this and it was the one located at the rear next to the evaporator housing. While he was going to the office to tell our boss that he had to pull the head, I went to my tool box and got out the appropriate sized ez-out. It took the threads out cleanly and without damage. When he returned I told him to hold out his hand and I dropped the threads in it and said you owe me lunch. His only response was WTF. No hammering involved because of lack of room. The more you turn it the more it bites. Be sure to use one of good quality. The slight expense is better than pulling a head or engine.

I forgot to mention my Screw extractor set (ez-out) was from Snap on tools. I new if it did not take it out that the head would have to come off.

You can see in the pic what my plug looked like when I broke off two of them.
The second item from the R/H side of the pic is a SQUARE ez out welded
to a 3/8 drive socket. I had better luck using a square one compared to a regular
EZ out. A light tap on the socket to seat it into the plug and some slow but firm
turning and out it came without any damage to the threads.
I soaked the two plugs in PB Blaster for a day to give me all the help I could get.

HAD 4 of them like that, used PB Blaster & I think it was a 5/16" allen wrench, came right out. bolt extracters try to expand it so it actually gets tighter
