i'm about to start pulling apart the body of my fiero and doing the body work and prep for paint. i'm not very experienced in this so it will definately be a learning experience. i've been reading up as many posts as possible and trying to learn what materials to use on the various body parts of my fiero (87GT). can someone please help me out by telling me what materials the different body parts are and teh materials that are safe to use on them? For example, i've done some work on the decklid using fiberglass. will the 2 part bondo glazing putty to work on fiberglass? what are fiero doors and fneders made of and what materials should i use for repairs? what materials should i use when bonding and molding in fiberglass parts to the doors? any insight i could get would be greatly appreciated.

I know this isn't particularly helpful, but I have heard over and over you have to do 3 different kinds of prep for 3 different kinds of surface when painting a Fiero.

Anyone else notice this is a very EARLY pic that shows the rear wheel well opening with the original straight cut upper edge rather than the arced edge? Pretty cool...

didn't even notice...and agreed, pretty cool.

so i assume that the hood, roof and deck lids can be repaired with fiberglass since i've used fiberglass on them before...what about the TPO and the Urethane? Can anyone suggest materials for repair of those parts?

You need to use SMC filler/bonding agent ("Vette Panel Adhesive") on all the SMC panels. Mix some fiberglass mat chopped with scissors on anything structional (filling holes, backing up cracks, etc.). On the other panels, I think the SEM product I mentioned in another of your threads will work on all of them. Check the label/instructions.
As for prep, PPG epoxy primer will work better than anything for adhesion on all of the panels, with the *possible* exception of the TPO; on any hard plastics (such as the interior plastic) you should use a plastic primer - I'll get you a part number for that when I get time.
