I have a 88 with a 2.5 and have built a 2.8 stroker motor to swap into it. The motor was from an 86. The question is the auto trans mount differ from dukes to V6. Do I change it to the v6 set up? Also, will the "front" motor mount fro an 86 motor fit an 88 cradle?

TIA

The 88 4 cyl autos used the central single tranny mount. The cradle has a special mount shelf on the driver side cradle rail. You can switch to the V6 and earlier 4 cyl mount method that used 2 tranny mounts and attaches to the cradle crossmembers.

The engine mount bracket is unique to the 88 V6 due to the 88 engine mount pad being in a sligtly different location than the 84-87. Depending on how particular you are, the 85-87 V6 engine bracket can be modified to work on the 88 cradle by extending it and redrilling the holes. However, when doing this, you can not get the holes in the "ideal" location side to side and so the dogbone will be at a slight angle. This might be acceptable to some, might not be to others.

Here is a modified 85-87 mount for use on the 88:

Here is the dogbone position - it is about 1/4" offset to the driver side:

I still have this modified 85-87 engine bracket... $40 shipped and it is yours.

Thanks for the reply. I actually welded an extension onto the "L" bracket to line up with the '88 cradle mounting point. I think this should fix the dog bone issue. I just was not sure if the trans mount that the Duke has will work with the V6. I heard it would. I do have the "front" trans mounting bracket and thought I might just go ahead and use it as well.
