Looking at picking up a used fuel tank. How can i tell buy looking at the tanks wether its an 84-86 or 87-88 tank?

Only way I know of besides for the fact one is bigger than the other is that the 87-88 had an expanson tank inside the rear passenger side fenderwell. You might wana look for a line going to that. The 86 and down was 10.somthing gallons without the expansion tank. The 87 and up was 11.somthing gallons also with the expansion tank.

Ill grab pics of this expansion tank im talking about tomorrow. For some reason my wheel well cover is missing in my 87.

The seam is in a different location. The seam is on the bottom of the 87-88 tank.

I stole these images off of the internet, not mine.

This is an earlier year tank with the seam close to the middle


This is the later tank with the seam on the bottom

Thank man that pic gave me the anwser I was looking for. yea pontiackid I knew about the expansion but nothing except knowledge or pics tell anything when tanks are sitting on ground next to each other. with no hoses.
