My electric water pump is bolted up to my engine block (SBC 350)... which I had to cut out the space frame to make it fit ....my question is ....are there any kits to move the water pump to another area or near where the battery used to be? I'm really tired of the lack of space when I work in that present area ....... If so please post link or thread of anyone who did it or knows where I can get this kit.
Thanks for any help or suggestions.
Dan

We're working on that same type of project right now.

The customer got his engine mounted into the car & because his job was demanding too much of his time. So he asked us to take what he had already done & finish it up.

He had already bought a Pro-Comp Electric bolt on W/P but hadn't fitted it to the engine. We decided to remote mount it.

A few years ago, I had my machine shop make a bunch of threaded flanges to attach hoses to SBC waterpump flanges.

We put a pair of the flanges on the front of the block & another pair on the W/P flanges & remote mounted the pump.

I have this car at the shop right now & can better pics if you need.

When I first installed my SBC, I remote mounted the electric waterpump where the battery used to be and made some hose flanges to bolt to the engine.

Another option is to build some offset housings that bolt to the engine and move the location of the water pump up and forward so it will clear everything. This one was belt driven on the back side, but you can do the same thing with an electric one:

Street Dreams now sells an offset housing set, but I am not sure they move the water pump enough to clear everything - they just go up a couple of inches up.

I have a "csr" electric w/p mounted under the old bat location. Out of the way, out of the engine compartment. I had to make a water manafold to bolt to the engine face for a inlet. I hung the pump on a chevette motor mount to keep the noise down. It's low in the car so it primes when you fill the rad.
you can see what I did if you watch my youtube vid "chevy V8 fiero-4".
to make the manifold I cut all the peice's and used allthread to bolt them to a chevy w/p ( to hold them together and aline them ) for welding.

A friend of mine did a V-8 swap when he was 16 and at the time was smart enough that he did not want to hack up his frame rail or stick the waterpump thru the wheel well. So he remote mounted his electric waterpump in the 1/4 panel area behind the battery area and ran his hoses from there. It is out of site and has been running like that for about 6 years now if I remember right. I am sure it wasn't to complecated being he was only 16 when he figured it out. If you want I can see if he has any pictures from when he installed it or from present day.

Yes, you have a Pro Comp also.

When converting a bolt on pump to a remote pump, you'll have to make some kind of mounting bracket to mount the pump.

Once you get the pump mounted, you got to connect the pump to the engine. Several years ago, I had my machine shop make up a bunch of these fittings.....

4 of these fittings plus 4 Hose Barbs can be bolted to the 2 flanges on the W/P & onto the front of the engine.

Then just connect them with hoses.

For remote mounting, typically we use the CSR925 pump which is designed for remote mount. (This is the CSR925 on a LS3 swap we are working on right now.)

CSR makes these pumps with 3 threaded holes in the back for easy mounting....

I like the CSI pumps, we've installed them on at least 100 V-8 Fieros in the last 7 or 8 years. Word has it that CSR is having problem staying in business. Many of the W/D's are having problems getting CSR pumps lately. So I'm looking for a new brand of electric W/P's to start using. A report on the Pro Comp would be nice.

Notice that on the bolt holes on the legs of the Pro Comp pump, where the bolts pass thru to bolt it to the engine, the bolt heads hit the radius before they tighten up flush.

Archie you have a PM ...
I just bought myself an 86 GT rolling chassis (no rust) and I will be transfering everything from the Widow to the perfect frame GT in 2011.... I dont want to cut into it's frame for the water pump. Sent you a brief 1.5 year usage report on the electric water pump I have.
