Hi All,

Was thumbing through my new Jegs catalog the other day and noticed the electric motor driven water pumps. This got me to thinking...has anyone ever tried to drive the AC compressor with an electric motor?

The AC takes a huge amount of power. You would have to have a huge alternator also

Yeah, I think your right. Just FYI...this is on a 4.9 and I did replace the alternator with the next level up (can't remember what it was though).

A AC compressor can take up to 4 HP to run, 4 hp = 2982 watts.. assuming a 100% efficient electric motor (which doesn't exist), that puts you at around 248.5 amps of current at 12v.

Probably why they're belt driven..
