i was just doing some reading and the 3.8 bore is 3.8 in (97 mm), and the chevy 350 engines bore are 4.000 in (101.6 mm)
i was just courius if you could bore out the 3.8 to fit the 350 pistions? would it be possible. im mostly just out of couriosity.
the old chevy 307 bore are quite close to the 3.8
3.875 in (98.4 mm)

has any one looked into stuff like this? or maybe finding a crank to maybe stroke the 3.8 for more power?

That would be like boring out .200 and .075, respectively.

I'm not sure how far you can take out a 3.8, but I would say an .060 overbore is as far or over what would be safe without having very thin cylinder walls.

There was a RWD version of the 3.8 that was a 4.1L with a 3.965 bore.

I believe the 4.1 liter Buick motor had siamesed cylinders like the 400 SBC. It also had the BOP bellhousing pattern.

The 350 pistons work but require some machining of the bosses. The Speedpro Hypereutectic Pistons are a direct bolt-on and will give youy 9.5:1 compression. Just an easier option.

yes but the difference here is that 350 pistons are rediculously cheap and being they are all made prior to most of the whole emissions BS the top ring would be further down making them more stable under boost. This set:

of forged pistons cost 270 dollars vs.JE's 900 dollars a set. The ones listed above would be a .030 over bore and are press fit but who cares thats peanuts compared to 900 dollars

Someone explain to me why we can't use the old turbo buick pistons. they are already a 3.8" bore and only cost 55 a piece.

Are you sure the wrist pin location on the 350 pistons are in the same place as the V6 pistons?

Those are cheap 4032 Forgings. For boost, you need 2618 forgings. 4032 is the wrong grade of aluminum for serious boost.

If you're going to boost your engine go forged, if you want N/A power go with the Hypers and be done with it. Eather way their is options. BTW you can only use these 2 options on the pre 87 3.8 engines. The 3800 (after 88 3.8) is a hole different story.

Yeah I started looking at the differences after I posted. lol. It would have been cool though. I hate that a good set of forged pistons for the 3800 costs 900 dollars Especially considering how mainstream they are and the fact that there is only six of them. lol
