On my Mercedes C2230 and E430, you don't remove the calipers at all. Just pull the retaining pins of the top, push the pistons in with a BF screwdriver and install new pads. It takes longer to jack the car and remove the wheels than to swap the pads. I've got the Duralast Golds on both of them and swap them out every year or so.

It's not just the discount places. I saw the problem back in the late 80's with a Mercury Sable, using Wagner pads I got at a "real" parts store. They were hard, and I had to re-do the brakes about every year.

NAPA/Carquest for the good stuff

I don't buy NAPA anymore either. I used NAPA pads on my first brake job on my Formula, and they were great. Then for the next two brake jobs I used something else that was crap. Then I tried another set from NAPA. Crap, too. Now I have Thermo Quiets, and I love them. Now I just use OEM pads if I can get them, which, of course, I can't for my Fiero. I've never had a problem with OEM pads.

I can understand just fine that you are and full up on so you like to about it until you're . And this topic you're tossing on about it in, is about brakes. If you don't have any valid factual information about the Duralast Gold pads, please don't waste everyone's time with it. If you want to spout off your racist hatred, do it in Totally O/T. Frankly, you're about as coherent as an empty box of rocks.

If you really want to try to get into a petty argument over your petty ignorances with me, feel free to hit that little PM button, and I will gladly rip you a new one, without having to waste everyone else's time in glossing over it. There may be valuable information yet to come in the thread, and it'd be nice if it didn't end up in the trash because of your idiotic ramblings.

Gah. Don't encourage the bum. Conservative crackpots like him never use logic or facts. Those are the tools of the liberal devil! And he's not half right at all. The only thing right about him, is his alignment on the political spectrum. Hell, ALL the "foreigners" I know, speak and write better English than this idiot… as their third language.

Clearly you know absolutely nothing about me, or anyone like me. Hell, you can't even seem to spell my username correctly, even though it's right there in front of you while you're typing. You just like to believe whatever you were told by someone who is probably a more insane conservative crackpot than yourself.

There is no such thing as "Made in America" any more, or expecting that you can survive only on resources from your own country, if you want to live in the modern world. I'm sure there are a few caves in the Rockies, Ozarks, or Appalatia, that would be quite suitable for you though. There is an old saying, "No man is an island." And that saying is just as true to extend it with "Nor is any nation." It is simply impossible for any nation to sustain itself on its own resources, in the modern technological world. But you would rather live and die an ignorant life now, than try and make the world a better place for generations to come. Nobody is going to need brakes, no matter where they are made, when they can't afford to buy oil and gasoline to drive their cars anywhere.

Back to brake pads..

When I was using my Fiero as a dailey driver years ago, I had the best results using AC Delco pads, no question. Same with my Buick. Accordingly I check the AC Delco website and the frt & rr pads & rotors are still available...for how long?? Well..who knows, not too long I would guess. They are of course usually the highest price.

BTW..good ol' USA is still #1 in manufacturing output from a monitary point- about 1.8 trillion.

Personally, I avoid Chinese branded products because they are inferior in quality...and I have a good idea how lax their quality controls are, especially for a non-name branded product that is almost exclusively price driven. Go buy a $1 Chinese screwdriver and a $4 USA Husky screwdriver and tell me which one is made from a higher quality steel. For light duty jobs, the cheap stuff works - but its honestly just a lousy product. The head will distort because of the soft metal. Thankfully still there are USA manufacturers of auto parts and tools, for the most part.

It doesn't help that seemingly every week theres news that Chinese products are laced in some new toxic metal or chemical. Toys with lead, milk with melamine, and now jewelry with cadmium. While I don't agree with the accusations of Marxism going on here it would be nice if the average American stood up for the home team a little bit more...
