My Vortech V1 supercharger was starting to get pretty noisy. I suspected a worn bearing, plus I had an internal oil leak. I removed it and dropped it off at a local turbo rebuild place for an estimate. I was home for 20 minutes when they called - $1000 - screw that! I picked it up a half hour later.

Vortech has a "rebuild service" for something like $600, but others on the Internet said they got the "not rebuildable - we'll give you $400 off the purchase of a new one" when they sent theirs in, plus it took 2-4 weeks.

I found complete directions on a Mustang forum and decided to do it myself!
http://www.starrland.com/Su...ctions%202-22-08.pdf

The bearings and impeller are pressed on. I was nervous, but with the aid of a press, I had the thing apart in under an hour. Surprisingly few pieces and so simple!

3 housings, 2 gear shafts, 4 bearings, 2 seals, 1 body o-ring, 2 thrust washers, 1 impeller, a handful of bolts. 1 bearing was loose and noisy, the impeller seal was leaking into the discharge volute, and the 2 high-speed bearings came apart getting them off (very loose and have a plastic ball retainer)

Not my pictures, but representative of my unit. (my impeller and volute are different)

The big problem was parts - ridiculously expensive locally!!! The BIG cost is the high speed (impeller) bearings.
I saw prices of $2-300 for a pair for them by mail order on the internet too.

Another forum recommended a supplier of a rebuild kit (4 bearings, 2 seals) in Poland for $180 (more like it).
I ordered it and had it in a week. FAST!!! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymot...ME:X:RTQ:MOTORS:1123

I got the thing back together and back on the car - no leaks and quiet!! My total cost $235.

I should hope so, the impeller looks like it taken form the original drawings from Büchi. I would hope yours has a much more efficient blade profile.

While I was under there, I noticed my axle seals were leaking. I had installed the add-on axle bearing/seals (Teckpak Fitzall PN 75125LRB) years ago.

I found replacement seals for them locally. They are National/Timken PN 323138 or NAPA 13537 oil seal (1.375"x1.828"x0.250"). Yay! Leaks are fixed!

Ka know, I was thinking the same thing... That impeller looks like something you would find in an Air Hocky Table or a small portable vacuum

Ok. Very nice setup. But like that company that used to sell SC for the Fiero no A/C

With A/C, about the only thing anyone could do is build a shift drive setup to mount it at the transmission end similar to this.
Good this is, you'd be closer to the air cleaner and throttle body too.

Yeah, I have thought about that setup. I think some Honda's has something similar. But for the cost probably a whole engine swap would be similar and would have more power. But still may not look as cool or different.
