I repainted my deck grilles gloss black with “Rustoleum auto body acrylic lacquer” from a can, does this need a clear coat over it?

No it does not, but, it will benefit from it. If you use a clear lacquer as the clear coat. Also, note that lacquer does not need sanding between coats unless it is old lacquer. The new lacquer will combine chemically with the lacquer color coat.

The clear will protect it and save it from fading.

Good luck

Thanks! Yeah fading is what I'd like to prevent.

So is there a laquer that is not "acrylic"?
I also have seen some cans that just say "Enamel" and some "Acrylic enamel".

This links tells you all about it.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lacquer

Essentially, acrylic lacquer is a faster drying automotive style lacquer than its nitrocellulose cousin.

For clear coat on it, I like to use the hardware store lacquer spray balms. I find you get more in the can, a better spray pattern, and the stuff works just as well.

Oh, yeah, remember to look for the regular stuff, not the satin finish stuff
