everyone , thanks . should be able to combine these ideas and come up with something . i guess maybe coming down to a flex joint then to a compact cat.( with a heat sheild) at the lowest point then up to the side of a muffler then out the ends of the muffler to the tips. i'm thinking if i can put the muffler kinda above the cat. it will do some of the sheilding for me . maybe scooting it to the left away from my lowered altenator. i'm going to add some good sheilding to the trunk area (with air gap )same for altinator . i'll probably need to heat sleeve some wiring that runs near the eng. block does the alt. fan/pully blow or suck air though the alt?
That is the complete WCF header and catback system. The Cherry Bombs used as resonators, Magnaflow tips and 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix cat are not usually used. You have to use a factory cat for a CARB legal swap in CA.
The picture below shows the system with a 49 state cat after ceramic coating.

David

Im not concerned about Carb, Im in MD, so I should be fine. My concern is performance. i don't want to have to buy another exhaust so while i'm doing It I want to buy something that is good, but as I have 0 fab skills, and Don't want to buy a crappy crush bent exhaust from local shop so I need a bolt on solution. Best I can tell, WCF is the only one that has this, correct? If I buy the whole Headers + cat back... I don't need anything else right. That should cover me from Manifolds down to the Exhaust Tips?

Nice, but what about the cat? Same question for the other two setups.
David
Obviously no cat, but we did make plans to include 2 2.5 inch cats in that system, right off the headers, and possibly relocate some of the flex/ypipe area.
Howdy, hey DH I like your setup way better than the WCF. Is it cheaper and better to go that way than the WCF setup? I really do not like the way the exhaust pipe goes right next to the oil pan. I bet that messes up the oil, being so hot. loss of vescosity?
I have seen them crack as well. Has that been fixed on th enewest batchs from them?

The setup I have shown was about $200 + muffler. You could probably make out cheaper.
The headers we used were junk off of ebay for $100 shipped. You ended up having to re weld the front header a bit, but the modification is pretty simple. If you are afraid of welding, you can get everything mocked up with tape/spot welds without issues and take it somewhere for a final weld. The front header attached over the trans to the crossover..... the rear header, crossover, and Y pipe were all welded together, which will still make for an easy removal and no chance of clamps leaking.

I have the SSAC headers, little different style, but I need to modify them too. How did you weld em? Everywhere I look says I need to tig weld SS (I have a flux core mig...) I was planning on getting everything lined up & bringing them to a welder here to mig them.. Replace the flex (heard they were crap) & replace the V-band flanges (they're warped & out of round...)
had the wfc headers. jimmy's custom and automotive did the exhaust . hate to put the good name of west coast fiero with the BUTCHER work of jimmy's custom. THE WEST COAST HEADERS WERE GOOD PARTS. jimmy's work was total crappppp. i sold the headers to RICK N as i wanted to reduce the amount of heat therouting of stock pipes gave off. so i'm using the stock headers and reducing the heat exchange surface area by having less pipe under the hood.i'll wrap some of it. to bad that sinister per. dude doesn't make a complete exhaust with cat. for an 88, in stainless ,bolt in.
This is my homemade exhaust with a flowmaster series 80. Fits in with trunk but sounds pretty agressive.
This one makes me happy. Been brainstorming all night as to how the flowmaster 80 series would look. Still has room for high flow cats on each side. Did you get a good deal on the flange and the flex section? If so, where from.

Howdy, Why won't those people @ WCF make another style of headers? I just don't like the exhaust routed that way. Right by the oil pan does not sound good to me. I would buy from them with a more updated exhaust system. Heck, if they just made thaexhaust muffler section, like the black one above, would be a big help. If it bolted up to the stock manifolds or even a new header set up would be a good bussiness move I think. WCF are you listening?? Jay

I used the same headers DH did on my build but I worked with a friend of mine that has a nice tubing bender and welder to make the exhaust. We ended up going with a true dual setup with two long skinny chambered mufflers and I think it sounds great. It may sound like more work but it really only took a couple of hours start to finish once the front header was reworked. Here are some pics
IMO it sounds better than most 3800 swaps I have heard, it is quiet but still has a nice tone, less scattered sounding.
