Hi guys and gals...

So I have searched and verified here that we can use scion TC wheels on our fieros. The threads I have seen here have all been the 17 inch versions. I know I have to bore the hub 1mm. I also know I have to use the toyota/scion lugs and that the thread pattern matches ours. An that the scions have a 5x100 bolt pattern like us. I have an 84 indy with dry rotted tires. The indy wheels are a mess and need to be refinished, so I'm looking for a good looking, cheap alternative for driving on.

I have a line on a guy that has a set of the 18 inch tc rims with tires. Not sure if they are called xd or specs, or super 7? The tc 17s are a 45mm offset, correct? I've seen they will sit a touch inside the wheel wheel. I assume scion did not change the bolt pattern or offset on the 18inch versions? From what I have found the 18s are a 45 offset and 5x100 pattern. I asked him the exact tire size to verify fitment and am waiting for a response... Tire rack says the tires are stock 225/40-18.

Anyway.... I want to know if anyone has run on or fit them on? Do they fit as well as the 17s. Will the 45 offset be ok with the 18s with my factory suspension? BTW I'm planning to lower the car once I get a set of wheels and tire.... (probably just cut the springs carefully then move to replacements)

From you guys experience, will the factory 18 inch 225/40-18 rim tire combo fit fine w/o scrubbing on my 84 indy?

Also... considering the investment or boring and swapping lugs... what is a good price for the 18s with 5000 miles on the tires? I want to be sure I'm not over paying. $260 is the asking price.

Thank you so much!

Edited since the thread was a mess... typing too fast

The price is good. I've heard that they will not fit on 84's but not sure why. I'm running 17's, so not much help here.

The 18's have the same BC and offset as the 17" rims so if you use coilovers on the rear they should fit an 84 to 87. I have 17's that I tried on the rear of my son's 88 and they fit with the stock strut in place. I have 235/50/17 on the rear of my 84 and the fronts are 215/50/17.

edited to ask if the 18's are 7" wide as the 17's are. I just assumed they were 7" wide. If they are wider, they will not fit a non 88 even with coilovers. My tires barely clear the springs with 7" rims so any larger is not going to work without spacers. On an 88, if you went to coilovers they would most likely fit.

So it seems they are 18x7.5 with 45mm offset if everything I have read online is correct...

Sounds like spacers would be needed then... hmmm more cost to make it work... starts becoming not a good deal looking at the conversion costs...
$100 to bore....
$60-120 for lugs...
lord knows for spacers... or a coil over conversion...
then I want to powder coat them white....

And now the seller is an idiot.... he says when i ask the tire size " the tires are the ones that fit 18 inch wheels"... WOW no crap doofus! lol! So who knows on the tires... not gonna shoot in the dark on that one!

offset makes me head hurt.... so offset is the distance from the center point of the wheel? yes/no.... so a wider wheel would sit further in towards the stock suspension... ugh!

how hard is the coil over conversion on an 84? junk yard or aftermarket

The offset is the point from the centerline of the wheel to the mounting point (important) of the wheel hub. What will be important is the actual backspacing of the wheel, which will determine if the wheel will actually clear components of the suspension. There are a few guides in tech threads on the forum that do a good job for determining the correct offset and backspacing.

I made my coilovers using new monroe struts that I modified and then I bought a used coilover kit for a Honda on eBay. I used QA1 springs from Summitt. My springs are 250# and they work well for a Duke car

So what size spacers would I need to run to make them fit? Would the spacers let me keep my stock 84 suspension? How thick would they need to be and would they stick out past the fender? Cause I've used spacers before that bolt on and give u new lugs and they work very well. Im not afraid of them. Just weighing costs.

I just love this style wheel.... and 18s would be so nice!

I dont know the specs of those wheels, but generally 18" is just an option over 17" wheels from the manufacturer. They have the same bolt pattern. If the offset or rim width is slightly different you can use up to 1/4" spacers with stock lugs. If you need thicker spacers, you will need to replace studs with longer ones to stay safe. Ill take a guess and say they will fit fine without the spacers.
