Anyone tried this on a CD with equalizer? Maybe just buy a radio from the guy on Ebay and get it over with. but $140 for an EQ equipped unit vs $3 for the jack from Radio Shack just does not make good economic sense.
The Ebay guy says in his advertisement that he tapped into the radio signal to the amp board. Guess I will open her up and see what makes her tick.
I just added an aux plug on my Delco tape deck with EQ. I cut the audio wires coming from the tape deck to the stereo and wired in the aux plug audio there. Have to put a tape in the deck to switch the radio to the aux input. I didnt put a female plug on the front of the radio- I have a male 3.5mm jack wired out of the back of the deck and ran under the center console to come out near the driver seatbelt clip. then I plug in and it sits on the console.
Audio levels are the same as the radio's vol. I still have full use of the EQ and the loud button. One thing I read is to turn OFF the IPOD's EQ under settings. If you have one of theirs enabled, it will cause the audio to be screwy.

can you provide pictures and a lil more detail of this? possibly a demo video too? it would be greatly appreciated for those of us that have been trying to figure this one out for a while now.
note that this method does not automatically switch the radio to play the aux input. You have to put a tape into the deck for the radio to switch to the aux input. this is because you have wired into the tape deck audio wires and they are only activated when the tape deck is engaged. i just put in a cassette with the tape ripped out.
now this guy: http://home.hiwaay.net/~davida1/radio.htm takes the above method one step further and installs a nifty 4PDT relay that allows you to hit a switch to transfer from radio to aux input. the relay is basically doing the same work as when you insert a cassette into the deck. his explanation and diagram may be a bit hard to understand at first. it took me a few times to understand it (also had to read up on a 4PDT (4 Pole Dual Throw) relay). I am going to order one of these relays off the internet, as I cant find one locally, and try to wire the aux activate switch to one of the factory radio's DTR or other tape deck function switch for a clean stock look.

I have a PIE XMC-GM9 unit. My stereo it the Pontiac CD player with 7 band equalizer from a '97 Grand Prix. This adapter plugs into the 9-pin CD changer port and seems to have a pass-thru to allow the CD changer to be plugged in. I have a headset adapter for my phone that gives me a mic and headphone jack. I know this adapter works because I use it in my other car. I use a headphone (3.5mm) to RCA adapter to plug into the XMC device. I hit CD/AUX on my radio and get nothing. This unit includes an extra power adapter to control som XM tuner. Am I missing something here or do I have to fake power to the CD changer port so that it thinks it's there. I don't want to buy an XM tuner, I just want to use the AUX RCA input.
Lou, Not sure if you ever fixed this problem. I was doing research for my CD player and found this link.
I was passed that same unit from another forum and when I did research I found this on the page that describes the GM9-AUX device.
"Pontiac radios AM/FM/SINGLE CD headunits use 9-Pin data port for an OEM cassette deck and are NOT compatible with the GM9-AUX". "Pontiac radios 2000 and earlier are not capable of controlling two units; therefore, these radios will need to have the slave unit disconnected in order to use the GM9-AUX".
Not sure this helps as old as your post was, but maybe for reseach for others.
Either one of them will run the Aux / iPod adapter linked above.
Thanks for the heads up Raydar! I think it's time to retire my converted head unit (I modded mine with a input jack on the front)

My theory is that I need to apply a signal to pin 4 so that it "sees" a tape or CD 'on'.
I found this on another site:
1. Battery Out 2. E & C Data 3. Ground Out 4. Audio Com In 5. Left In 6. Right In 7. Voice + in 8. Dimming Out 9. R14 Out
this works..i have this set up in my monte carlo and my camaro and soon to be my fiero.. I used and the secondary tape deck.. put the tape in.. unhook the faceplate so it cant be ejected(i hide this unit under the dash.. the unit has to be there because it needs a signal back and forth. cut and splice the 4,5, and 6... 4 is neg(hook both left and right to 4) 5 and 6 are your left and right pos. you need a connector like this http://www.walmart.com/ip/B...Audio-Cable/17032533 any questions PM me
