I need plugs for my 3800SC. they are far too confusing and i am having a hell of a time figuring out what plugs to use. I think i need ONE (1) heat range colder than stock. stock engine, slightly ported exhaust, BBV and emissions removed. tuning by Ryan. I would like a list of the different plugs that i should use. I am using Autolite XP103's right now but i am not sure if they are the right plug. I am not overly concerned about platinum or Iridium. I am trouble shooting so i cant afford to spend a ton on plugs. Please any ideas? ~Jes
So you guys are suggesting that I use 2 heat ranges colder. Like i stated i am using XP103's which are 3 heats colder. I am getting some misfiring in higher boost so from this information i think i am using too cold of a plug. i will get some 104's and see how that changes my misfiring issues. Thanks for the info. ALSO, does anybody have a really good list of cross references for spark plugs? I cant find one that lists all the different plugs and prefereably heats.

ya check you gap spec is .060, but ive talking with plenty of people running them ( ed morad, Scott cook, bob cook tim king to name a few) run .053-.057 .055 being optimum it will help with misfires, but wouldn't recommend running it any smaller. heat range depends on your set up, but autolite 105's 104's or 103's. what you running you may not need to be that cold either.

I use 103's and cut back the ground strap to where it covers just one quarter of the electrode. Then I gap them at to .030. This is what I have found best and I run 17psi. Spark will jump across sharp points easier. I use factory coil packs and factory plug wires.
I've battled some blow out in high boost before. It was very frustrating and finally nailed it down to a bad wire.
Also look for any cracks in the porcelain or any evidence that the plug is grounding out, like black streaks. I've also seen the electrode come loose and the spark would jump inside the plug, which creates pour combustion. A while back I ran across a thread on CGP talking about that, I think autolite made a bad run or something.
Make sure your coil towers are not corroded either. Very easy to check, just pull the wires off the coil one at a time and look. Look inside the wire end too.

very interesting, with cutting back the grounding tang for the electrode, i heard about that before but never thought to do it. learn new things all the time. thanks for that will try when i install my ported heads. you got pics of ur turbo set up? highly pondering getting rid of my gen v.
I have just installed new 104's but the weather here sucks so i cant test the setup. i was running 3 steps too cold so that really may have been my misfiring issue. tomorrow should be nicer so i might be able to test drive it then. thanks for the all the help. someday i may get around to putting up all the pics of my build. ~Jes

I got her out on the road and it looks like i may have fixed the misfiring issue. i didnt do a lot of testing but right off it seems to run better. looks like running 3 heats cold was too much. snow tomorrow so i cant take her to work yet.
