Repair your fuel sending unit for $35.
In taking my '86 SE out of a multi-year hibernation, I discovered the fuel sender wound resistor was bad. In trying to find a new sending unit, they are either not available or those that can be found are more than a bit overpriced. So, I looked around for a universal sending unit and found this:

A slightly different version for $30 is available here for sale as well:

We can easily adapt this to our stock fiero sending unit assembly. The original factory sender is attached to it's mounting plate with 2 melted head plastic rivets-simply use a razor blade or knife to cut off the heads which will allow removal of the old sender and leave you the bare mounting bracket.
One inch under the top mounting hole center, you will have to drill a new 9/64 mounting hole for the universal sender to mount.
I used two small stainless washers between the plate and the new plastic sender to space them off the plate so the float arm can freely move.
Your stock wiring will transfer over easily, you may have to slightly open one of the push on connectors with needle nose pliers.
The universal sending unit kit has a long straight float that I bent into the shape of the original.
