As I pullled the rear clip off during the chop of my car I noticed the leftovers of the grounding strap on the neck of the gas filler tube and was wondering does it really matter if I replace it? the car has run fine prob for years without it. I have a new one made but forgot to throw it in before I put the rear clip back on (slaps forehead!) what do ya think? I suspect its just for static kaboom right?

Depends on how much you like exploding. If blowing up is your thing then by all means, leave it off.

But yeah the not smart ass answer is, it's there to ground the filler neck and prevent a fire due to static spark during refueling. It would be a good idea to reconnect it.

Between the mounting flange at the top of the neck, and the upper frame rail.

Anyone have pictures of the ground strap and how it mounts? I considered installing a ground strap from the frame to the gas tank to ensure I get a good ground for the fuel pump and sending unit. I will still do it but what does the strap in question do?

and people wonder why cars catch fire, when the fuel noze touches the filler neck (Im sure there are other causes).
As a safety precaution I allways touch something metal befor pumping fuel (some gas stations have some sort of static touch pad).
