Hi there Fiero folks,

I'm a newbie on the forum

I used to own an 86 SE V6 back in 1997. This was the first car I ever purchased. Sold it in 2000 for $$$ reasons and I still miss it to this day everytime I see another Fiero on the road...

A buddy of mine has been restoring a '73 Camaro in the past 2 years and after going to a classic car show in August where he was displaying his Camaro I simply couldn't take seeing the few Fiero that were on display and decided it was time to 'get a little bit of my youth back' (mind you I'm not that old!) and so I started looking around for a decent 86-88 GT that I could get my hands on.

To make a long story short, I've currently got my eyes on an '87 GT T-Top for sale in my area that looks very promising. For some reason, this 87 GT has a black (yes black, not gray) interior (cloth, dash/console etc.) The owner is listing this as a "rare" option which makes it sound like it's a stock color but I cannot remember ever seeing anything other than Tan/Beechwood or Gray stock interiors.

Would anybody here happen to have the official information as to what were the stock interior colors for the 87 GT ? I've looked at vintage sales brochure available on the net but none of them list the interior color options (only the exterior paint). I'd like to have this information before I actually go check out the GT in person since I'm looking for a GT that is as stock as possible.

Thanks!

It's either been modified, or it's the somewhat really dark grey color that some sometimes consider "black". There's no OEM interior combo that has the dash, console area, and seats black. You're best bet is to obtain reference photographs of a stock interior and take them with you.

For instance, the seats in a GT if they are OEM should look like this in design no matter what.

Other 87' GT OEM interior images.

You could also get tan, but I didn't have a reference photo readily available.

Thanks for the reply Fiero84Freak.

The seller actually has posted pictures of the interior:

Center console:

Seats (they're actually Acura seats...)

Doors:

Unless this is dark gray (sometimes pictures don't show the right color), I guess he went and painted everything... Anyway, I'll have to wait 'till he gets back next week to ask him about it!

Thanks again!

Yeah he's colored everything. It doesn't look that bad honestly. Looks to have forum member Orief's door tabs (it's nearly impossible to paint those by hand). Questionable about what's going on behind the door arm rest though - those plugs in the inner part shouldn't be there. Also not quite sure what's going on with the dash pocket on the passenger side. It should be the standard full length pocket, but it looks like an earlier '84 style "slip" pocket was placed over it. It's got a Fiero Store holder in front of the shifter area under the radio. That's a nice item to have to increase space to put stuff. I also see the OEM subwoofer under the dash so it has Performance Sound option. The T-Top install tag is also intact on the driver's door area under the striker. That's a real good plus to show it was actually installed aftermarket by C&C instead of being a hack job (it's hard to transfer the tag without damaging it).

Those seats are interesting. At first I thought NSX, but they don't come in cloth and the side bolsters are different. Did he say what Acura they came out of. They look good.

Thanks for the hints. I didn't even notice the plugs behind the door handle/armrest. I'll sure ask why they're there.

I'll also ask which Acura model his seats are from, but I would think these are from an EL.

Thanks again for your help!

I think those plugs are there because the door panel has been covered with leather...(real?).. and it's difficult to get it to stretch into those finger pockets......so he added those buttons to hold the leather in there.

It's a very nice job...and a lot of work to do all that....and very not-stock!

That makes sense. At first glance it looks like the owner just dyed it but getting a better look at it I can see what you're talking about.

I also noticed this....

The ground effects shouldn't be white unless this was an '88 and the side trim should be black, meaning either they have been painted or the whole car has been repainted at some point. Looks to be a recent repaint as well (no cracking in the side trim or separation from where the lower ground effects is).

Good catch.

I note that the side view mirror housings on all `87 Fieros were a semi-gloss black --- not white --- which means either somebody painted them white (likely), or somebody affixed the (white) side view mirror housings from an `84 Fiero Indy Pace Car onto the would-be seller's `87 Fiero GT (unlikely).
