So I did some modification to the deck lid and hood and need to clean up the work. What are you using to paint the underside of the deck lid and hood? The factory color is a satin black. I was considering using black epoxy paint. It is a little flatter then the factory color. Is there a factory color?
Thank Frank

I used Krylon BBQ black on all of mine. If I remember right though, OEM color is a very dark charcoal gray ..not black.. and it is painted, not gel coat. Im also pretty sure their is GM paint code for it. If someone dont have it, Im sure I can look it up somewhere.

I like the satin black also and used it along with aluminium to do my modified deck lids. LOL that and lots of aftermarket High pro product stickers and such. Not to everyone's liking I 'm sure.
Gotta go check my Forumla again...if it's paint, its the best factory paint job I have ever seen.
Trust me it's paint. There is no gelcoat on SMC panels. Look at the glue - it'll be black too. The original color of the glue is green (you can see that when you separate the two panels). And as I said before, it's semi-flat (or satin) black on most Fieros - a very few have a dk. grey instead (have seen that only on a couple '88s). I guess they used whatever dark color they could find on final production cars...? ~ Paul aka "Tha Driver"
Yes it's indeed paint under there. I went crazy about a decade ago and destroyed a spare decklid to see how easy/hard it would separate. Was surprised to see the green goo there and realized then the underside must be painted at some point along the assembly process to give a solid look and cover up any excessive glue.
I'm a sucker for a glossy look so I've typically used a semi-gloss or something like that to give it a 'cleaner' look. Helps to make it pop when you're showing off everything back there.

Ive had a lot of people who arent real picky about 'authentic correct ' have me paint things like firewall or fenderwells in high gloss black. Its easier to maintain for a show car.
