Has anyone used basic fiero body panels as the basis for a race car? I have seen several IMSA builds but I have a tube frame car with some fiero under pinnings and I was going to use a Kelmark Fiberglass body but I am wondering if using fiero panels would be easier.

Some of the Fiero panels are easy to mount. You will find you will have to modify the panels to do a neat job; the smc panels are easy. The front and rear bumpers, the front fenders, door panels (if not using the stock door) will not be easy and will be difficult to make look good and to make mounts for. Imsa bodies are easy as they are all fiberglass. What I would do is use the smc panels from the fiero and make replacement panels from aluminum sheet to replace the doors, front fenders, and the panels ahead of the rear wheels. I would purchase fiberglass front and rear bumpers.

Hello, using a Kelmark body would be different though very heavy and too much trouble. Fiero panels are easy to attach and there are a lot of aftermarket for them too. Thanks Norm

Nice Car Norm! The problem lies in that I already have the Kelmark body mounted. It's just in SAD shape and needs a lot of work. I went to a specialist today and he wouldn't even give me a ball park quote for how much it will cost to get it up to spec. He just said it would be a lot of work. That translates to a lot of money. I don't want to mortgage the house for this car. I looked at the IMSA fastback body from the fierostore, $4500 and that doesn't include the hood, decklid or finishing. Plus I'd have to stretch it to a 96" wheel base.

I'm guessing that either way I am going to invest in a good repirator and A LOT of fiberglass supplies.

Thanks for the input.
