OK, searched the archives, but didn't apparently have the right 'search-fu'.

Can someone direct me to the location of the A/C system orifice tube on an 87 GT? Pics would be really good. I'd like to not open more connections than are absolutely required.

Secondarily: I believe my 87 has a suspect compressor. I have an 88 sitting here, with the compressor. Will the 88 compressor directly fit the 87 without mods?

Thanks,

Darryl

It's in the tube here, between the condenser and evaporator, in the front compartment:

Compressor should swap over no problem.

+ for you. Thanks very much! It's kinda what I thought it would be, but better to ask. Plus, maybe the next person who does a search will happen upon it....

Is it in the same location on the '84? I'm looking around along these tubes, near the blower motor, and I see no shraeder valve, as in the picture above.

Thanks,
Michael

I think on 84 it's all up back in the engine compartment.

PS. It's tight getting that tube out as well, three's not a lot of play in the short length of rubber hose that is part of that assembly or the hard lines either side of it.
Be careful not to damage the ends of the tubes when removing it.
You can get movement of the line on the right by removing the tub. My battery is up front so I didn't bother, too much work!

Anything I might say is probably worth what you paid for it, so treat it accordingly!

The orifice tube is in nearly the same place on the 84: It's in the inlet of the evaporator a bit further towards the passenger side.

The 84's high-side schrader valve is in the engine compartment, on the hose assembly, kind of behind the driver's head.

Here are a few pictures:

Thanks. I would up taking the whole core out. I already had all my tubes disconnected. Turned out to be a very good thing. My evaporator was full of leaves and debris and caked with gunk! That would not be likely to work too well.
