Hi Everyone, I have an auto 85 GT, stock v6 with a recent head job, 150K. It starts fine, but lacks power and shows some hesitation on acceleration. No overheating.
The engine light does not come on. I do not want to start throwing parts and money without some expert advise first.
I would appreciate some tips.

Was a tuneup done recently at all?
Could be a sensor too.
Is your GT a 4 speed or an Auto?

PontiacJoe1995, thanks for your reply.
I do not what has been done to the car, as I recently bought it. It is an automatic.
I just do not want to start changing parts without a clue.

How does it idle? Rough or nice and smooth? Inconsistent?

idle is not rough. But the check engine light does not come on, even after warming up to operating temperature.

Check your fuel pressure is correct. Since it's a new buy might have a pump going out or the pulsator or coupling in the tank leaking.
Other thing to check is it has the stock prom yet. If someone messed with a different program that could do it also.

I was chasing a similar issue on my car recently. I checked fuel pressure and it was a little low. Changed the pump and had correct pressure but still no power. Turns out the button on the dist cap had actually fallen out! I have no idea how the car was running at all but it drove perfect aside from the low power. Its just a quick sanity check to pull the cap and check for wear etc.
