So, I have finished the 3.1L stroker and it"s time to put in my push start ignition.. Now, don't waste your time telling me it's stupid or a waste of time or anything like that. It's something I want to do. Not to mention, the ignition key has gone missing. I have already taken the whole steering column apart and removed the lock mechanism, key tumbler, and the ignition wires... What I am planning on doing, is taking the constant (battery wire) and wire it to an independent tumbler with key on my dash... Which will stop anybody from being able to start my car without that key. When that key is turned on, it will power a series of toggle switches, one for accessory, one for dash lights, ect.. (Race car style) So I will turn the key (on my center console) then flip all my switches to their on position then use my momentary switch will be a straight wire to the starter. I think it's a pretty cool set up. Anyways, on the ignition wiring harness, there is a blue clip and a black clip. I found this schematic online and it's given me the use for some of the colors.. But not all of them.. I have a Haynes Fiero manual but I can't find a diagram for the ignition.. Here's the link to this diagram .. http://www.commandocaralarm...int_wiring_chart.asp On the blue block... The thick red is 12V battery, the yellow is starter wire, the pink is the ignition wire (I assume that means the wire that powers the ignition coil) .. And there is a brown wire that is not labelled.. I assume that would be a ground. So on the block beside the blue one is a black block.. And I mean they are literally beside each other... There is another thick red wire which again, I assume would be a 12V constant, an orange wire.. And in the diagram I found, it said the orange wire was for accessory, and since there was no orange wire in the blue block.. I assume that this would be the accessory wire.. And then there are two thin green wires coming from the same port of the black block and another light brown wire (which I assume is another ground?) I'm curious if I have all my wires figured out to have the right use as I think they do... Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am in the same boat, almost. I want a push button start as well and have bought it. I want to use my key to unlock steering column and then use the push button to start the car. I have read the instructions over and over and they just confuse me.

Your assistance is appreciated.

Okay I made a little mistake on which colors I saw.. On the blue block, it was not a brown wire.. It is a grayish/black.. Which confirms my suspicion that it is in fact the ground wire. And the brown wire I saw on the black block is a light brown wire with a thin white stripe.

From what I've read and found.. What you'll want to do is run a constant 12V from your battery to your push button. Or you could tap into the wire that is already there.. Since I plan on pulling that whole harness out, I will just be tapping into the wires directly since my steering column and dash are already apart. And then you could either tap into the starter wire that is already there, (yellow) or you could run an independent wire to your starter.. If all your doing is installing the push start, the process is a hell of lot easier than rewiring for individual switches. Instead of you turning the key all the way to turn the car over.. You'd turn it to run, and if the button has been hooked up to a 12V constant and the starter wire, you could bypass your ignition by using the button. If you don't tap into the wires, you could still start your car by turning the key all the way.

I was going to do this due to an ignition switch problem.

It turned out not to be the ig switch, anyway....

There are 2 heavy reds going to the ignition switch. These are the main + feeds to the ignition switch. If you want to do a distribution type setup I'd pull power from there if I were you. You can acess them by removing the lower cover under the steering wheel. If you look just above the colum, there should be the ignition switch connector for thw wires heading up the colum. It will have:

red, red (+12V) connect to 'b2, b3'
Yellow: Start (+12 out when start) connect to 's'
Brown: ( hot in run) connect to 1-3
Orange: (hot in run) connect to 1-3
Dk Green (connect to gnd in test or start, for guages test) connect to 'g1' (jumpered to g2)
tan white (as per Dk Green) connect to g2, jumpered to g1
Brown (connect to +12 in accessory or run) connect to 'A'
Pink (connect to +12 in run, test or start) connected to '1-1'

The yellow output from the key switch goes to the neutral/park safety switch on an auto, or the clutch switch on a manual. If made, the +12 flows to the starter via a purple wire.

The ideal place to put your switch is in place of the key switch; ie the red to yellow to keep the safety switch in place, but have your starting as a push button.

As for a master switch and rockers after that, sounds like a plan, but where to put it all? There's not much space unless you build a panel for them somewhere.

It would look cool though!

BTW, brown is almost NEVER ground.

Black yes, black white sometimes, never seen brown used as a ground.

I used the schematic here:

http://www.fieronews.net/fu...s/1984Schematics.pdf

Look for the switch wiring on page 3, and a detail of the switch internals on page 4.

It's for an 84, but they are pretty much the same I'm sure.

One more note, there are 3 connector blocks:

1) Multi function turn signals, horn etc
2) Hi/lo light switch
3) Ignition switch wiring

I found small wires on the first 2, but NOT the third. Hope that helps.
