They were the only place open around here at 9:05, so I figured I'd give them a shot. Needed an accumulator, mineral oil for lubricating o-rings, and some PAG150 to replace oil removed in the old accumulator. Accumulator, they had a stock replacement for $19.99, or a Universal for $42. Had to order the stock, so they tried to sell me the universal they could get tomorrow. Told them no. They insisted it would work. I told hem it would not. They begrudgingly ordered the correct one.
Asked if they had PAG150, went over to the shelf, they only had the type that comes in a small can, the 'oil charge'. Told them I would pass. Next asked the guy if they had mineral oil for AC systems, 525 viscosity. Should have seen the confused look on this guy's face. He asked the old guy. I explained it was used in R-12 systems. He tried to tell me 'all R-12 systems have to be converted over to 134' Explained NAPA carried it, and I was wondering if they did. He stared at me with that typical 'get the eff outta here' old man stare. I didn't feel like getting into a debate, or enlightening the idiot, so I just left.
I just looked on their website, and what do you know? They carry the exact same mineral oil you can get at NAPA. Part # 59000, even the same part number NAPA uses. Unfortunately they don't have a ship to store option, I'd love to see the look on the little bastard's face when I went in to pick it up. So sick of smug old bastards that think they know everything, with their 5th grade educations.

I've had this exact same problem with Oreillys!

I remember when I was a manager for Discount Auto Parts here in Florida you had to take and pass a test to be even considered a job at the parts counter. To be a Asst. Store Manager or Store Manager you had to pass the ASE certification test.

My brother works at O'Reilly's in Dallas, and I can assure you that he does an excellent job at finding the correct parts for people. You should hear some of the idiot customers he has to deal with, though.
I worked at an auto parts store for years, it doesn't matter which store you go to, what matters is who works there, I could tell you stories about idiot customers...

so true.
I prefer my O'relies store and I have all the major chains close by. I just like the people who work there. They all like cars, are not ignorant or with the exception of one, arrogant. Usually there prices are right along the lines of anywhere else.
Around here I only see two types of employees at the auto stores: 1. The master mechanic that can't work on cars anymore so he shits on you for not knowing part numbers off the top of your head, 2. The high school kid that thinks every car should have a huge wing and fart can melon shooter muffler on it (his car will be the Honda/Mitsubishi with $5,000 in body panels that are still painted in primer after 5 years)...
Oops, forgot one... Sometimes we have the hillbilly diesel tuner. That's the guy with the Dodge truck, huge tires, side stack exhaust and the sticker "Dodge makes it, Cummins shakes it!" I actually respect these guys around here because they have truck pulls and basically tear each other up with brute force.
I usually look on-line at Advance Auto, O'Reilly, and Auto Zone before going after a specific part. O'Reilly is my preferred store but if they don't carry it, my next choice is Advance. Auto Zone is a last resort.
If Advance is my only option, I check Rock Auto for their price and print it off. Advance will match that price and I don't have to pay for or wait for shipping.

I did not know that Advance does price matching. I'll have to remember that.

I usually go to O'Reilly's website and look up the parts I'm going to need and print out the part numbers. Makes it easy to just hand the list to the counter person and they don't have to look the stuff up. I also use Rock Auto quite a bit.

Its all about the right employee. In my town there is one good employee at Napa, one good employee at Oriellys, and one good employee at Autozone, I've never been in our Car Quest store. Everyone else is VERY questionable, some are inexperienced, some think they know it all, and some are jerks.
I was at an Autozome once and the guy was pushing that Purple Power degreaser...he told a guy it was biodegradable, and it was so safe you could drink it! It says right on the bottle dont even get it on your skin....

I can recommend Super Clean degreaser. Get it at Walmart in a purple spray bottle. It did a good job for me. I think it's made by Castrol.
I live in a very small town so the the local Napa is the go to place. Both guys that work there (yes only two guys) are knowledgeable and courteous, but like I said, I live in a very small town and would get that service regardless. The guy that co-owns the Napa in the next town over actually has a couple Fieros so that's nice. As far as other big chain stores, O'Reiley's is the only one I will step foot in. I won't even go to an Advanced or Auto Zone to buy an air freshener.
