Here's a tip I took out my ashtrays and using a Dremel tool with a brush bit, I scrubbed the ashtray with rubbing compound. I then used Mother's brand aluminum polish and again scrubbed. Washed with a mild soap and dried! The first pic is the passenger side one the after is the driver side one. (Driver side one looked just like the passenger side before I started)
BEFORE
AFTER
Takes about 10 minutes to do! Gotta get the passenger side one clean now!

Let's see $5.90 for new ones, $2.00 for shipping, wait 2-3 days...... or just use what is already on the shelf in my garage and spend 20 minutes running a dremel tool. hmmm.

Well I put mine in the bead blaster and a minute or 2 of blasting they were fresh wetal, then I painted them with some black spray paint that was sitting around, they looked alot better that way than with a inch of rust on them

I bought some of that black flocking used by model car builders to replicate interior carpeting. After coating the trays with spray glue, I'll load them up with this stuff. It'll look nice AND cut down on the noise made by my change bouncing around in there (I don't smoke).
BTW, very nice job on your trays, Oreif!

eh here in canada you cant smoke in grocery stores / restuarants / bars / AND A NEW LAW PASSED LAST WEEK NO SMOKING IN THE PONTIAC FIERO NO MATTER HOW MUCH YOU WANT TO SMOKE HEHEHEHE
I to used my trusty dremel to clean the ashtrays but not being a smoker I also used the dremel with a cutting wheel to remove the holder inside the ashtray. It now can hold plenty of needed toll money .

Careful, if you look at the ashtray, there are slots in the bottoms that the coins will slip through. While trying to figure out why my car wouldn't shift well, one of the things I did was open up the console to check the shifter mechanism. I pulled more than $5.00 worth of coins including quarters out from the shifter and cable area. A couple were jammed into parts of the shifter so hard that I had to pry them out. So if you do put coins in the ashtray tape or plug up the slots first, it'll save you some headaches later.
