I like them both a lot and have absolutely nothing bad to say about either one. The Fastbacks look a little cleaner from the side, and with the ground FX come across as a more potent sports car. Maybe its because there are fewer of them and more notches.
My vote goes notchback, however, and only because its what I own! I'd go the opposite way if I had a GT. I was shopping for either when I was in the market initially, and the Formula was in the best shape of any of the notchback or fastback Fiero's for sale at the time.

Interesting fact, Notchbacks outnumber Fastbacks About 3:1, however at an average Fiero show, for example Carlisle, Fastbacks outnumberd notchbacks about 3:1. What does that tell you about what people prefer?
I'll still trade my notchback clip for a fastback, any takers?

I dig the SE style of combining the front end of the fastbacks with the rear of the notchbacks(i.e.-86SE). But if I have to choose I choose the Fastback.

When I first got into Fieros I had a notchback and everyone in the club had fastbacks. I liked the look of the GTs but still liked the styling of my 87 coupe formula. So much so that when I got an 85 GT with a junked front nose I took the chance to grab a formula nose and an 88 coupe rear. I was going to change out the body cladding on the lower door and fenders but Ive grown attached to it now.
Back in the day my notchback stood out in the pool of fastbacks. Currently the club seems to have swung back to notchbacks.
Notchbacks for me.

Some people like the flashy blondes, I prefer their quiet dark haired exotic sisters. Read the sig.

I was just pondering this today. The pic on the front of my Chilton manual seems to incorrectly depict a notch with clear sails, and it got me thinking.

I think people preffer what they own... So that's why there are more votes for notchbacks here because there are more of them around... but I'm gonna have to vote for the fastback.
