Fastbacks are more modern looking and less distinguished as Fieros. I've like the style more ever since I was introduced to them. However, I have owned 6 notchbacks!

Oh wow this topic has been beaten to death already....but, I like them both, really. If I had to pick one, I'd say I'm partial to the notchbacks. They were the "original" Fieros to come out. I actually think my favorite model is the 84-86 coupe....I've always had a week spot for the "underdog". But seriously, I love 'em ALL!

Also , It surprises me how far ahead Fiero was with designs ,Fieros look sharp =) Even today Fiero's can compete stylewise against newer cars even though some are 15 years old!!!!

Yeah, this has been discussed to the living end and I for one, like the fastbacks less, they remind me of a CRX. But one thing that is never discussed is the Notchback Aero look over the standard coupe look. I would assume, like me, most like the Aero look more, but I'm glad the likes of Archie took the time to show us what a coupe can really look like when they are done up.

For those of you who have been around a while so be it. Maybe to you this topic has been seen before but not by me and many others. So give us a chance to discuss our thoughts without the "O here it comes again attitude" I'm not trying to piss anyone off, But me and many new members haven't seen many topics here before. So please keep that in mind OK, Thank You.

So Notchback vs Fastback... I've owned both a 84SE and present a 87GT. I like the lines of the fastback along the back of the car including the taillights. The front I don't care for that much. I like the front end of the coupes from 85+ not the 84 front end, I can't remember which year they changed.

Hmmm...I've never owned a fastback before. If I had one, I'd have the top chopped, put on a chin spoiler, and leave it wingless. I think the back end of a fastback is a bit big for the front, so adding a chin spoiler and chopping it would help that out a lot. I like the aero notchbacks with a spoiler, and the regular coupes without a spoiler. I think every fiero needs to be lowered and have a nice set of wheels. They all look good then

Archie said in the chat room he'd chop the top off for about $2800.00 or so.

For that money I'm going to spend it on the engine first. Chop top later maybe another Fiero.

I didn't know about fastback fieros till I joined the forum. Now that I have my 86 GT I definitly like my fastback better than my recently sold 85sc. To each his own.

An analogy regarding the question of what design is "better" would be to ask, Do you like a women with large breasts or do you prefere a women with great looking legs? Remember, the crux of the question is not to add any qualifiers. You can't re-ask the question with "it depends". You are either one or the other in terms of your chouice of female beauty. Ask the same question in the same non qualifing foundation. The honost answer is "it depends". I have seen outstanding show quality designs on all years on the Fiero. I have seen some cars that need help cosmetically. My favorite is the coup 'cuz I enjoy the racing heritage the coup developed and the simpler slender side appearance. But I would definitely would want a fastback! I am long winded tonight...till later.....Kevin

NOTCHBACKS!

All Fieros have a design ahead of their time; the Notchbacks look exotic, and the fastbacks predated the current "jelly-bean" fad.

They both rule, but that's my vote.

I like the notchback as a coupe, and the Fastback since it has the aero mould. The notchbacks with aero mould seem to be missing something in my opinion, plus my first 2 Fiero's were coupes.

Since alot of you seem to like notches... Wana trade? I'll do all the work....

no really, I want one of each, so I can make up my own mind about which I like better.
Notches are easier to work on, and they don't look like there about to rip you a new one. As long as I have a notchback I will like fastbacks better.

The coolest thing I have seen is a notchback with GT tail lights, Archies old car, the Purple Pavement Eater.

Personally I like the futuristic look of the fastback better, but I've owned many of both and actually have a notchback now. Both appeal to me in different ways for different reasons. I LOVE ALL MY FIEROS

Dead horse topic, but I agree it's always fun to talk about (I mean, they're BOTH Fieros...)
I personally prefer the aero coupe with a big wing look. The notchback is one of the Fiero's most distinctive design features, and really sets the car out in a crowd. The fastback adds too much mass to the back of the car, almost looks "pregnant". Love the taillights, tho.
Again, I've owned a few of both types and loved them all. All things considered, I prefer the coupe...

hey put a vote in for the notchback, cuz that is what i have. the fast backs look more modern. question though, what is the diffrence between the two. it looks like the fast backs are taller and more square looking compared to the notchback. do they handle the same as the notchback?

I currently have one of each. IMO the notchback is the aggressive and fun and in-your-face Fiero, while the GT is it's more sophisticated sibling.

coupes, aerocoupes specificly, then 87-88 coupes, then the originals (unless i could find a conv. then the original style i like best. kind of a neo-classic look). gt's tend to look like every other hatchback of that time. i think a lot of the fastback appeal is they're always going to be 6cyls (assuming no engine change).

They are the same frame, but of course the GT's have a little different suspension package. I did a fastback conversion on a coupe, and you could not tell it was a coupe when I was done.

Jeez.
The notchbacks seem to be taking the prize, here.

And well they should! J/K.

I am partial to notchbacks, though. My first Fiero was an 85 GT, and I currently own a Formula and an 88 coupe. The coupe will get an aero treatment, if I ever find the time.

One thing I noticed about the fastbacks is that the rear sails seem to get in the way when you're trying to work on the engine.
