That is the one from the Fiero Shop. I'm currently installing one for a member of our club and I just have to say this... It is a B***H!!! It is "supposed" to fit with no modifications to the front trunk lip but it doesn't! The center fin sits about 1/2" above the vent with the hood open and is almost flush with the hood closed. The part (a one piece casting) when installed has a lot of tension on it, I'm afraid of cracking down the road... The part doesn't come with any written instructions, just a video of George installing one. In the video (it's hilarious, by the way...every time his shop compressor comes on you can't hear a word he's saying ) George even had the same problem with the center fin sticking up. His solution was to "blow by" the problem in the video without showing how he fixed it. I'll get this thing in there, but it will take a LOT of "finessing" to make it right. If anyone is going to do a hood vent, I would look at Archies "Warber" style, Oriefs or even mine... Much easier to do and looks better IMHO...
Cozmo, what kind of hood vent is yours and Oreif's?
Both have the same style as archie's, but all look different.
Im also waiting on some installed pics of ferrari_mommo's tiger paw vents, they should look very good. But i wanna see some before i put down may dollars.

You can borrow my idea for the vents if I can find out where you got your hood scoop.

Hood vent's are a waste of money and time , i do like the zr-1 , but there is no way in hell that our little 4 bangers and 6's are going to get that hot

i dissagree stokin some of us out there dont have 4 bangers me for one i have a 8 banger without archies rad (i cant afford it) so this if cheap enough would be a atractive yet viable solution to my heat problem plus it looks sweeeeet!!!!!! if anyone has $$$ info i am intersted

I know that you've been here quite a while and pretty much know everything, but perhaps you don't know all of the info behind a hood vent. It's not really for better cooling so much as it is for better airflow. At high speeds there is a high pressure buildup under the hood of the car (imagine all that air coming through the radiator, then having to use the hood to redirect itself to go back down under the car). So, by creating a better release point for that air that has gone through the radiator, you allow that high pressure buildup under the car to dissipate.

That vent does work.. It works on all Fieros.. It doesn't matter if you have a 4 or an 8. The car WILL run cooler.. If you don't have one or have seen how it works on the car.. You should keep your negative, unprofessional opinion to yourself..

Thank Yaz'All...Yes these vents are from the Fieroshop. It will take time to install correctly. Like Philiphine said they remove hot air from radiator similar to C5 RACING Corvette vents. The fan pushes the hot air out / hauling ass will push hot air from front of car thru these. I think the Fieroshop had a falling out. The video I got to install had both Terry and George explaining cuts and fiberglass tips. Its like a bad soap opera with those two-but they got it right with this kit-

ok now your mentioning v8 fiero's which i didn't even mention , people that put cowl induction hoods and vent's on mid engine cars are fool's IMO , unless you have a v8 i can see why , but the car was not designed with them , so there can't be any harm involved in not having them just how fast are you possibly going to go in a stock fiero? i mean com'on were not driving 300hp v6 cars here , sure it may cool the car better but why is there a need for it? the fiero cooling system works just fine , as for rumors that it stops the headlight doors from flying up at high speed's , maybe so but ive clocked my car out plenty of times my headlight door never moved an inch! , don't try and be someting your not....
sorry to rain on your constructive critism!

...needless to say I've wrecked every fiero except my latest and greatest. YES these vents prevent headlight pop up at any speed. YES these vents run cooler. YES these vents look nasty... OUT>

mines have never , ive gone to 6000 rpm without blowing the motor , "eased off real quick" , my tach only goes up to 140/km it was bouncing around like crazy , headlight doors never moved.

First off I am. second there is a need for it because have you ever driven in a head wind at say 100 mph, and noticed the front of your car isnt really on the ground? And I installed these vents on my car, and I have really noticed a difference in handling, I think they just look cool, and my engine runs cool.
Neil, mine is a "home brew" using a spare grill from the dash.
I had to cut the front lip of the trunk 2" to clear it, but it was a pretty easy mod. Stokin, I can testify that the vent not only reduces pressure buildup behind the radiator and increases front end downforce but it also increases cooling efficiency. I did a hi-speed run (70 mi.) to a picnic yesterday put on by our club (Suncoast Fieros) and when I arrived the vent was so hot you couldn't touch it. I know it's an "A$$-O-Meter" statement, but the car also seems much more stable at higher speeds after I put the vent in. Thanks, Jake...Where were you at the picnic yesterday???

Sorry to upset your good mood but, I'm not pissed about anything. I can care less if you don't want to learn the truth. The saddest part of this is that you actually think you know what your talking about..

whatever...
Dude...listen to yourself!!! You're talking to people that have been dealing with hood vents on their fieros for a very long time. This is not a "mythical truth"...this is real, and very valid. I told you how it works, didn't I? It improves high speed handling. Explain to me how that IS NOT true.
Hmm, you're new since MARCH 2002, which gives you a maximum of 10 days here on the Fiero Forum. Take a look at the dates that others have been here since, Haze is at TWO YEARS now. Do you really feel that you have ANY authority in this field of experience? You're just wasting our time. You must think that since you know everything, you cannot learn anything new...because this is ridiculously basic.
If you want to get technical and back up your claims with evidence, be my guest. If you want to talk smack, go find some ricer forum and tell them how useless their stickers are. Either way, you need to wise up.

Hi All; I noticed that most of you are putting your scoops on over the trunk area. Are you all having to cut the front trunk lip for these? Is there any reason you are not mounting them closer to the front so they wouldn't interfere with the trunk lip? I have some sunbird turbo vents I was thinking of using. Later tstroud

Nasty, I hope the Fieroshop vent I'm doing turns out as good as yours...good job! Haze, here's the only other good pic I've got...
I'll shoot some closeups as soon as I can borrow a digital camera and send them to you. The dash vent is a perfect fit... the curves and angles match the hood and the honeycomb mesh blends in fine. The only problem is it's steel...it rusts

Smaller motors get hot too. You don't need a v8 to benefit from having a vented hood. Some people just like the "look" and maybe not just for cooling advantages. Some people "like myself" don't mind wasting time and money on our cars to make them unique.

Stokin' the Neighbors- Just some thought from the peanut gallery but, why so stubborn, just open your mind, you've kind of convinced yourself that there's no opinion more knowledgeable? It's not a really serious concept to grasp. Where do all the hot air in your front compartment go from your radiator? Nowhere! And what does hot air do? Rise! Which would translate in the the front end rasing at higher speeds. The scoops just keep the cool air out, planting your front end just a little bit better.
Check out the Japanese top end racers, the put reverse scoops on their hoods as well, like check out the Top Secret Supra article in Super Street, a top end car's got different priorities.

The scoop looks a lot like a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo scoop. Guess what stokin, it is functional on that car too. But what would the Mitsubishi Rally Team know. They only have millions of dollars to test things like those scoops.
Stokin I have found my temp drops around town with the Sunbird hood vents I installed. I think it is more important to have the hood extractors on a mid engine car, since you have less air flow to the motor. Have you ever been stuck in a traffic jam when it's 90 degrees and have to turn on the heat in your car to lower the engine temp. I'll take all the help I can get. Take notice that I disagreed with you but did not put you down and make any personal references.

Hey, all you guys know that stokin is yo_sweet, don't you? He said that he was gonna behave and try to get along, but he obviously isn't. He's still a prick trying to cause trouble, as you can plainly see. No point in trying to convince him about anything.
BTW, I like the hood vent.

yes, nice hood vent. Hood Vents ARE functional no matter what engine size you have. They function in a variety of ways. Now cowl inducion hoods on a mid-engined car are pointless.

Wrong fieroshop, plus all the popups on that site is absolutly horrible for any site, and this is a commercial site supposed to make me buy their products... Not gonna happen when im too busy closing popups...
