Well if it includes the HVAC, then I will own a set in the future Oh, also, will it only be 85mph and the 120mph? Or can we have "custom" faces made? Just making sure to get all the details out of ya :P
Will you be making any where it's just the opposite of that? Meaning, the numbers, lines, etc will light up, and the face won't? I guess that's just like the stock ones, huh? I just want a different color. I don't really like the orange.
I'm glad to see that people like what they see so far. As to the questions about custom faces & other colors... once we get the normal stuff rolling smoothly- we'll investigate other custom designs & colors. So you'll have to be patient until then- OK?
As soon as Joe finishes mounting "my" set (the checkered ones)- I guess I'll try mounting them in the car soon thereafter. I have available the 120mph Speedo (which as shown above actually shows to 125), the stock Tach, the gas & temp gauge, AUX gauges, AC/HVAC controls, and even a white overlay to make the signal & warning lights look white when not lit (these have not actually been tested yet).

That may be possible even without the EL paper... I have some unfinished samples that I may continue working on (since there are obviously interested parties).

Put me down for a set either the whole face lit or the reverse lit. What would you be asking for them.
Joe and MinnGreenGT, I seem to recall you also do custom posters. What is the biggest size you can do. What are your prices. My brother just got the Cover of Performance BMW magazine and he wants a poster made of his car. Can either of you let me know if you can do this?
FANTASTIC...I've been waiting for these! Keep us updated when you're ready to take orders; I've bookmarked the page. I'm sure you're working on it...I'd like to see what different options you have available when you get around to it. Not necessarily produced results, but just a list of what possibilities exist with colors, graphics, etc. would be nice. Custom graphics would be cool, but I think I'd be hard pressed to beat what you guys can do.
Thanks, keep up the excellent work!

Hey Spiff...your brother has a beautiful car!!! I can do up to 11x17. MinnGreen has large format capability.
As for price...well...let me figure out how long a complete set will take. As mentioned by others...the real question is how much will people pay! I'm selling $5.00 decals and nobody is buying them
Rob and I have settled on a tennative price though.
What kind of "custom" graphics are you all interested in? Keep in mind, that certain images/colors may not show up well when lit.
Here was a face I was working on. New sets with crystals will eventually be offered.

When my car had its 4-banger (and reflector-style gauges), I purchased a set of the white-faced decals from the guy on eBay. My favorite part was the fact that the entire face of the gauge lit up in bright orange at night.
When I had the 4-6 engine conversion done, I was forced to go to the backlit-style gauges. I MISS THE FULLY-LIT ORANGE FACE!!!!!
Count me in if you offer a white-faced, BLACK-LETTERED (not red-lettered like other white-faced gauges) face that illuminates orange at night!!!

I am new here and not familiar with your products. What stickers do you sell?
I am definately interested in the guage labels. They look really good so far!
Spiff- Nice Car! For the cover I'd probably have to scan it myself (there are some issues that occur when blowing up a magazine print a large scale). I have the capability to print posters anywhere from "small" ($25 approx 12"x24") a "standard" size is 2'x3' is runs $50, and I have the ability to run up to 60" wide by whatever length you're interested in. Email or PM me... there's a handful of info here as well: https://www.fiero.nl/forum/Forum1/HTML/013564.html
--------------------------------------
For those looking for the standard-style gauges with different colors... I just realized that Joe may be able to make them faster & easier than I can!
Joe- do you have a thin semi-transparent colored film/material you can use? If you simply placed your black "reversed" gauge face over a white layer... then stuck it on the colored layer (so you've got the black on top, the white in the middle, and the color on the bottom). It'd look simliar to the current gauges (white characters when not lit) w/whatever color backing film showing through to the front! I'd be far easier than what I can do. ----------------------------------------
The question of custom designs & colors... again we're going to finish the "normal" stuff 1st, then we'll have to see what we can figure out colorwise from there. The custom printed faces won't be much work- really just editing a design.
Also for 150-200mph speedos... if someone has some exact calculations on this- please let us know! If you can figure out what crystal to use... and what degree angles specific speeds land on (where's 55mph, where's 85mph, etc...) Then we can make those faces as well! ---------------------------------------
87ECO5- The design shown above is a white-faced/Black lettered design (OK.. so the 100mph mark is red ). The photo is just rather dark... we'll see what color combos they have EL available in.
Keep in mind that the only EL paper that is white when off is the WHITE->GREEN as shown above.

I bought those too!!! I didn't put them on yet though, I'm kinda hazy about pulling the needles off without breaking them... do they really look that good? I'm so excited to put them on now. Also, I wanna get those hyper blue bulbs they sell at the store to make them light up a bluish-white, will that be safe?

This is exactly what I have been looking for. Guys if you can do the black faces where the white illuminates blue I will send you a money order today!!! Please advise soon.
Yes, I can get translucent vinyls for the faces. I need to see what happens when I put the diffuser/white layer over it.
I had a small sample of translucent colors and put them on white EL(pink when off) and the light colors glowed nicely...as did the dark blue. The dark blue looked like VW guages-looked awesome-and matched my head unit.

You may want to try something thicker and/or more opaque than the TransWhite material that the current faces are printed on (it would take 2-3 layers to block the BG color when off).

Is it possible to make a 140 km/h set? just for us slow canadian guys , id like them in the white face style , as soon as you can get them made count me in as a buyer.

Exactly my concern. There are "diffuser" vinyls and translucent white, but the light may not penetrate the 2 layers well.

It may not be necessary to switch. Your needle would not glow, but the whole face should cast some light on it.

Joe, stop teasing me and getting me all excited. The VW gauges are exactly what I had in mind. Seriously where do I send the money and How much?

The way I have my gauges planned, I have a metallic blue paint that'll be contrasting well with the needle lit or not!
note: these were my 1st attempt- which did not work correctly
If you want a glowing needle (and already have backlit gauges)- just go to the hobby store and pick up the brightest "day glow" colored paint you can find. When you remove the needle, just use fine sandpaper on the back of the needle (until the original orange is gone)- then repaint carefully with the new color.
When replacing the needle on the "pin"- it is usually recommended that you use a needlenose pliers and re-pinch the fitting- otherwise it risks falling soon thereafter!
Joe I also just wanted to remind you that on the AUX gauges, you may want to remove the EL from behind the warning areas before finishing the gauge... otherwise the warning light may not work correctly!

Yea... but it wouldnt look anything like the ones above.. If he wanted to just change the color, he could just remove the orange stuff inside the stock ones & put in some blueish bulbs. But it would be well worth the 120mph swap to get the ones your making..

Rob, yeah, don't worry they'll be cut out! Do you want the white over them? Did you see how that worked/looked?

I'm not sure what you mean Haze. Which ones above? The ones I made? For sidelit, you'd cut the illumiation wire so you only get the glowing face.
For backlit ones, you WILL have a glowing needle. Unless you don't want it. You can use Rob's instructions to repaint the pointer. I think Flourescent paint works best.

Hmmm... now I don't recall whether or not the faces I sent had the area marked...? Hmmm...? Well- I'd suggest having just the white layer over them- there is a warning light "tube/case" that fits nearly flush from behind with a standard 194 bulb in it. And with just the white over it- it should still be visible during the day (BTW: I don't recall how I did those- does it have something printed where the warning light goes? I just don't remember now!)
