I was just wondering...

I drove an '86 Fiero GT and it had some good power and was A LOT faster then my 2M4...and I drove my friends newly bought '86 2M6(Fiero_master) and his car felt slower then the '86 GT...the '86 GT was a 5speed and his 2M6 is a 4speed if that makes any difference.

I just wanted to know if the GT's were faster then the 2M6? It could be maybe the GT was more tuned up then his 2M6.

I always thought the '86 GT and '86 2M6's were exactly the same, except the GT had the fastback.

I've had the 86 auto GT and the 86se auto. The GT did feel faster. Stiffer suspension, fresher motor or mabie just timed slightly better. The SE should be faster with less weight.

Most likely the 5speed felt faster than the 4speed because of gearing. I've noticed that my 4spd GT doesn't feel as fast as my 5spd GT.

Wow , Thats exactly backwards to what should be. the 3.65 4spd cars are the fastest Fiero's Built. bandit balz is running 15.2's on a bone stock motor 4spd car.

top of 2nd is 58 mph (depending on tire size) @ redline
Top of 3rd is somewhere in the 90's @ redline.

I had my car touching 5600 in 4th , or about 137mph.

The getrag is certianlly geared more highway friendly , but having driven a few I think a 4spd would clean a getrag to 80mph

banditbalz used to drag a guy with a 87 GT all the time , perhaps we will get his input.

yea I always thought my 4sp 86 was faster 0 to 60 than the 5sp 88. In addition to the gearing, I'm sure the 86SE was a couple hundred pounds lighter than the 88GT

Not sure why exactly, but the GTs can be up to 300lbs *heavier* than the equivlent 2m6/Formula.

My Formulas are both faster (when they were stock) than any stock GT I've ever driven. (87s and 88s only, all 4 cars with getrags.)

The 4sp supposedly is actually a little *faster* (not sure why, the 5-speed has slightly tighter ratios 1-4 than the 4speed even...) Dunno, never driven one. The getrag's ratios aren't perfect, especially first, it's WAY too short. should be much closer to second. Anyway.

Best!
Ben.
