In addition to all the other projects I have going on, I'm just about done building a center console subwoofer housing. I didn't like the design of the fiberglass ones that you can buy that will fit 10 or 12 inch subs (they also cost alot!), do you really need a sub that big right next to your head anyway?? I didn't think so, so I designed a replacement panel for the original compartment door that fits a reasonably sized sub without any cutting (just two holes two be drilled for mounting of the new panel), and looks like it's supposed to be in the car. I have all this leftover gray vinyl material that I could make a limited number of copies with (if I can find more material, I could make tons of them), I just want to know if anyone might be interested in buying them if I made more. For my time and materials, I'd ask about 40 dollars including shipping for each. The pic posted below is a peliminary design, not yet perfected (this one does not fit the housing just right, has gaps, and the material I'm using on the final matches the console color perfectly), I will post pics of what the production piece would look like when I get it finished and installed in my car, which may be this weekend. Let me know what you thin of the idea and if my price is right/wrong!

I love it! I even like the 2 tone look. The price sounds great and I would love to see more pics when you are finished.

that looks great! would it fit a 10?
do you remove the section behind the speaker? In other words, is there anything between the speaker itself and the computer?

For those who were looking for the speaker dimensions, this panel is designed to fit 6 inch subwoofers that are 3 inches deep ONLY. The MTX in the pic is that size, and it fits just right. If you wanted to fit a 10 or 12 in your car, you'd have to buy a completely different console-one of those fiberglass ones that come out more to accomodate the larger speaker. As I said before, the only modification that you would need to make to your existing console is removing the compartment door and drilling two holes in it to mount the new panel-no cutting involved-the rear panel in front of the computer is retained.

Would you be prepared to give out more detailed instructions or plans on this item? I would really like to try it myself, and I can assure you I wouldnt try to sell it or anything. Im just worried about shipping costs from the US. Itd probably still make this product a bit too out of my price range, and Id like to try it.
Thanks,
Tim

Sorry Fiero Tim, but if I gave you plans on how to make one, it wouldn't be fair to everyone else, I would have to give them to everyone-then I might as well not even try to sell them. If you have the skills to fabricate one yourself, you should be able to do it without plans-it's not a very complicated thing to build. To update everyone, I'm almost finished with my first housing, and I most likely will be installing it in my car tonight or tomorrow! I will take pics and post them.

Very nice. I saw one done where they just cut a hole in the door and mounted the sub.
It looked ok but yours looks better.

Well, I just finished installing the first sub housing on my car, it took me approximately 1 hour and a half to install. Keep in mind the speaker dimensions I mentioned earlier if you are planning to order one from me, this housing will fit a 6 inch sub-the hole I cut for the speaker is 5.75 inches in diameter (yes, the 6 inch will fit, the flange is included in the width of the speaker-mountng hole to mounting hole) In addition, it must have a 3 inch mounting depth or less!(from mounting flange) That's how deep the speaker I installed was, and it makes contact with the rear wall of the console, anything deeper will not work without modifications (cutting) to your console. Anyone who wants one, pm me with your request. I need to find out how many people really want them so that I can start producing them in the next few weeks. Keep in mind, for now, I am limited as to how many I can build (probably only 8 of them right now)-so it's going to work on a first come first serve basis. Later on, If all works out well, I plan to get more materials later and build more of them. The cost will be 45 dollars including shipping anywhere in the continental US (I know, this is 5 dollars more than I posted before, cost turned out to be more than I expected) If you live in another country, let me know and I'll figure out how much extra shipping will cost. Oh yeah, before I forget, just in case any were wondering, the sub does not come with the housing, nor does a console. Otherwise-the way you see it in the photo is how you will get it. Here are a couple pics of what it looks like installed:

Nope, just 6 inch-an 8 inch sub would be too deep.

Would I be able to buy the plans off of you? Maybe I could send you a money order, and you could send me a copy of the plans. It would just be cheaper than shipping it (I think). Is it just one piece of wood, or a box type thing that slips into the hole? I can assure you I wouldn't be making these. Im just wondering on the pricing and construction, as I'm trying to decide wether to go for something like yours or an AusFiero box. Thanks

What is it that restricts the depth? Is it the actual console inside the door? Cause wouldn't you be able to trim that away and enclose it deeper with fiberglass or something?

The rear of the console is what restricts it. cutting a hole in the rear of the panel isn't going to help because the rear of the console comes almost flush with your car's computer, you wouldn't really gain anything. Fiero Tim, I can look into how much shipping would be to you if I can get your address, but I'm really not willing to let the plans out yet.
