Street modified 84 to 88 4cyl , 6cyl 8cyl cars
Competition all years , purpose built cars , 88 cradle swaps? Full slicks.
Pure stock cars must unmodified , larger rims and tires allowed (perhaps bump you to street modified?)
Street modified cars: DOT tires , free engine (no nitrous) no relocated suspension mounts.
This is the basic way CORSA (corvair groups) sets it up. Similar ideas too since there are 2 designs , early cars and late.
Any ideas?
JM
I intend to do 3 separate groups. Group A will be composed of the "legal" track competition cars (ITA, ITB, GT1 and GT2, etc.)with full cages, gutted interiors - - real race cars. To play in this group would require competition licenses (by any sanctioning body) and all the safety equipment that those bodies require. This will be the full wheel to wheel, no holds barred racing. I think a lot of the uninitiated Fiero drivers would enjoy just watching THIS show!!
Group B will be the High Speed Touring. The only requirements here will be that the driver is a legally licensed driver in any state, that he wear a helmet, and the car must pass the usual technical inspection. This will be the largest group, I suspect. This is road racing on a track, but with no passing except on straights, and "gentlemen's rules" apply. Two wheels off mandate a black flag and some coaching, Four wheels off and you are black flagged for the remainder of that session. Passengers are allowed here, BTW.
The third group will be a Solo I or Solo Trials type experience, a hot lap of the track while being timed. Perhaps some extra "features" being thrown in to slow it on straights and make for some cone penalties.
I suspect that a driver may want to enter more than one group, and there will be at least 3 20 minute sessions for each group.
I would like to get a participation trophy for every competitor, and minimal winners trophies - - overall winners in just a few classes and catagories.
JM's classing structure numbered 8 classes, which would dictate either 16 or 24 trophies. I think that quantity is about the right number for the minimum 50 cars (I really would like to see a hundred entries total, counting multiple classing as an entry for each class).
This isn't set in cement yet, but that is where my thnking is taking me.

361 days to go. I can't believe how fast the time is flying! This thing is going to be here before you know it. Plan what you want to do to your cars, and budget for the trip, cause you won't want to miss it!
Know any Fiero owners without Internet access? Send me their address. If they join CFOG-International, I'll keep them informed with my Pony Express bulletins which are mailed about every 4 to 6 weeks, in addition to the quarterly newsletter.

Cheev,
I joined CFOG-I last week but when Paypal redirected me to the new members page, it was missing. So I'm not sure if I'm missing info that y'all may need or not. I e-mailed the webmaster a couple days ago but didn't hear back. Thought I'd mention it.
I'm currently trying to convince my wife to drive to Pontiac from Newfoundland. I'm not sure how well it's going.
sigh.
Cheers, Andrew

I'm not sure what may have happened, but you are listed on our members' list (http://www.cfog-i.org/Our_Members.html).
I have the new members welcome page saved somewhere, and will email or PM the link to you when I find it.
Feel free to bring anything else to our attention at any time!
(Edited due to the fact that Terry is already taking care of the situation)

The 20th Anniversary event - The Fiero Event to Remember, will be held July 17-20, 2003. the host hotel will be the Mariott at Centerpoint.
The show will be held at that location (no driving to get to the show field after you have your car already detailed!!) as the have an ample area for the show set up. In addition, there is R/V parking and for those who will be trailering their Fieros in there is a space to park the trailers.....
We will have a Saturday night awards banquet with speakers from GM and various clubs (Fiero clubs and POCI as well) during the banquet. You will be required to attend the banquet to hear the speakers and show and event awards will be given at banquet time as well.
The room rate for the Mariott will be $89 + tax per night.
More details will be provided as soon as they are available.
You can also watch the cfog-i.org web site for current up-to-the-minute information.
Pre-registration will begin soon.
We really want to have as many Fieros there as possible (after all, this is in Pontiac's back door!) and remember - this is not an annual event - this is a commerative event! That means that you really don't want to miss this one - it will not be held the following year!

Forgot to add that I am working on some Friday night drags for this event.
This will not be exclusive to the Fiero or this celebration, it will be held at a regular Friday Night test-n-tune. However, I hope to have it available to those that are so inclined.
So far, the plans are that you can road race, Solo, and drag your Fiero during this celebration.. That should provide SOME wear and tear for those that want to drive in and compete in their cars!!

Decisions, decisions, decisions. Which car to bring? Which event to participate in? I'll be there. I just attended my first hot lap event at Little Talladega Grand Prix Raceway this past sunday, and I must admit I'm hooked. We had four Fieros show up. An 88 3.4, an 86SE 3.4, an 87 turbo 3.4, and my stock 2.8. That's stock engine. The suspension has been maximised for autocross type events. I won't bore you with all the details, but in three seperate 15 minutes sessions I was able to lap the field. George, we gotta have an autocross along with the track stuff. Autocross is where Fieros can really shine. I will most likely bring my 86 which has been maximized for autocross and hot laps. I may have to change my plans and put the 4.9 in the 86GT. George, which trany would work best with the 4.9 on an autocross and/or hot laps, the 4 speed Muncie or the 5 speed Gatrag? Terry, how about having a section of the show area set aside for race cars?

Bore me with your suspension mods.. I am interested.
I am going to try to pick up a second set of rims and get a set of competition tires for the event.
Can we have more than one driver per car? My father would like to participate

If they are a member of CFOG-I Performance Division, yes more than one driver is allowed.
I have made that decision because I am trying to set up our own insurance to keep from having to go through a sanctioning club (and thus costing us more). CFOG-I Performance needs to generate as much revenue as we can (translates into memberships) in order to be able to do all that has to be done.

The 5 speed Getrag is geared too high for the 4.9, IMO. Actually, for my competition car (the Challenge car) before I had to abandon the project,I built a 2.86:1 FDR TH125 up. This would have provided the best overall performance, especially top end on track, and maximized the torque of the engine better than any standard trans.
All IMO, of course.

Slamned Fiero, The suspension mods on my car are nothing drastic. I started with a set of adjustable perch coil overs from Held motor sports. The are 300lb springs on KYB struts. Next I moved the battery up front, replaced all rubber in the rear suspension and cradle with poly, replaced all the front ball joints and added poly bushings, cut a coil and half off the front springs, added adjustable Koni front shocks, and threw away the steering dampner. The cut springs and adjustable coil-overs allowed me to lower the car just a little over two inches. On the street I run 205/40R17s front, and 215/40R17 rears. On the track I run 225/45R15 hoosier R303s all way around. I did the mods one at a time as the budget would allow. The single biggest improvement I noticed was when I rebuilt the front suspension and cut the springs. Before I did that the car had a tendency to nose dive during breaking, and if you were turning the rear wanted to come around. Now she's rock solid with less tendency for the rear to come around. Last Sunday at the track she handled as if on rails.

Sounds pretty similar to what I have , I just picked up a set of dropped spindles.
Look forward to meeting all of you on and off the track!

take it from me, i live in waterford, right outside of pontiac. some parts are nice, but when you get into where the gm plant is and the train station... its a rough place. someone uhmmm.. might try and steal a fiero because it looks like a 200,000 dollar sports car (not to bash) detroit is probably worse, though " ive got to admit its gettin better, a little better all the time!" lol

Hi Mary!!!
[This message has been edited by tgowens (edited 08-02-2002).]
You can, but make sure that you don't have any outstanding warrants. Then they'll email you that you're under arrest, and that you should turn yourself in. If you don't, they'll email you a jpeg of a cop car, with lights flashing.
Mary is asleep. Shhhhhhh!
