Here the door skin is loosely mounted, you can see how much of it sticks out behind the trailing edge of the door frame.
Now that we have the door panels on the door frames, it's time to see just how easily the rear clip mounts. Our Video tape shows live action of us actually putting the rear clip on the car. Until you see that video you have to take my word for it that it is real easy to handle and align. We will bring the rear clip forward enough that the forward section of the roof tucks right underneath the remaining Fiero foreward roof panel (see arrow). In the areas that are being pointed too, you can see how far forward the rear clip fits.
When we close the doors we can see just how close we are in the alignment of the rear of the door panel. After moving the door panel and the rear clip around for just a little bit we come up with a good seam line and carefully open the door and snug up the bolts that were left loose for adjust ment. The Video Instruction tape details the easy method we have to make this door gap perfect from the get go.
Remember those triangular shaped parts we installed just a little bit ago? Here they are as the rear clip is mounted down over them. When the rear wing is installed it will cover these bolts.
Now the car is taking shape. It's time to mount the front clip to the chassis.
Here the front clip is setup on the chassis to look for any possible areas to be trimmed. The original Fiero Fender bolts are used in the same places to hold the top areas of the fenders just as before. You have to drill holes through the Fglass for these bolts to pass thru.

Now we get busy aligning the fender gap with the front of the Fino front door edge. This is real easy to get exactly right in adjustment. Do a little thinking right here while installing and save lots of time.
The video details the mounting of the rocker panel and your mounting options. This is the view of the rear part of the rocker panel. At this time it is held on by 2 hand squeeze claps and a pair of Vise-grips.
Here the hood is being test fitted to the car, the original Fiero hood hinges, hood prop & latch parts are used and will bolt right onto the new hood.
Well, it's already looking like a different car…….. 5pm time to go home, Monday night.

Any chance of us seeing the video at your next open house?
I know what you mean...... Yesterday while shooting video I was thinking "This just seems too easy, I gotta find someway to keep the people awake".
I would just love to just play video tapes at the open house but I think people would be lookin for a little more entertainment than that.
I will be playing another burn out video like I have the last several years.
When I finish the Video, I will find a way to make it available for free (or low cost) to people who want to watch it. Maybe someone will show me how to put it on the Internet for dload or whatever.

WOW, this is really cool to see this car being built like this. Archie, have you ever heard of Gary's Custom Auto in Newport News, Virginia? If I am not mistaken, he either built one of your cars or had one of your cars on display a while back, it was, if I remember right, Blue. It looked really good!

This is the color I am painting my project. It is the same Sunset Orange Metallic that is on the Pontiac Firebird and Camaro.
But my paint job isn't going to happen until probably late July so someone will probably beat me to the punch on having the first Fiero that color.

I saw a Vette painted that color at the Sacramento Autorama. It looked really sharp, but I couldn't get a good picture of it to show the depth the paint had. It would go well with the shape of the Fino.

I still don't like the idea of cutting the cars, I don't see why kits can't be made where you don't have to cut the car. I know you bought the kit Archie, so I'm not blaming you at all.
When you cut the front is there room to weld a panel in there, just to tie it all back together? And what's all included with the kit? I saw the picture on your site, but are lenses included, what else? Maybe that's still to come in this thread.
I also wanna see how the hood and deck lid open! I'm not impatient! :P

Oh man, I'm sorry..... was that the one at Fierorama?..... Sorry I just don't care for Orange on a Fiero, I wasn't dissing your car or anything. I mean it.
Next time you see me at a show, remind me and I'll take you for a ride to offer my personal appology.

Are you talking about the in the headlight pocket? Are you concerned about a structural problem there? IMHO, there shouldn't be a problem in that area however, there is plenty of room to weld in some steel to replace the little bit we removed. However, I've been around these kinds of cars for years and I'm sure this would not cause a problem.
Over the years there have been several Fiero re-bodies that didn't remove any material. The problem is that these bodies didn't sell well enough to keep the builders in business. For the most part, people want a nice sexy body style on a structurally sound chassis (which I believe this is). A body style that confines it'self to fit around ALL OF the original Fiero chassis would end up with a look that would make you want to keep the original Fiero's good looks.
Here is a parts list for the Fino Kit. Fino Parts List
Front Clip Hood Headlight Surrounds Doors Rocker Panels Rear Clip Gas cap door High Wing Rear Valance Rear Plate panel Rear Deck Lid 6 Red Tail Lights 2 White Tail Lights 2 Amber Tail Lights Quarter Windows Head Light Covers Front Parking Lights Rear Clip Mounts
Hope this helps.

That orange color is awesome. X will be a variation of that one of these days. What Im doing is a bright orange, the color of my engine, with yellow pearl. I think a setup like that would look wicked on the fino, with the lines of the body and the way it curves and rolls, some of it would look orange, and some yellow in the light. It definately needs to be a pearl color, so they are accented on the curves, in the sunlight.
Archie, not at Fierorama, but at the Dells. Bob Steiger painted it and I have one of you hoods. I wasn't offended that you didn't like it, but I'll take you up on your offer. --Jason

Ok yeah..... one of the guys that works for me loves that color and has been trying to get me to use it. But I gotta paint the car a color that is more universally accepted.
I've actually been thinking about "ricing" the paint, but I'll get over that in just a few minutes.
Sunset Orange Metallic with a grey interior.. definately... That would be THE nicest car I have ever seen... i nearly had an orgasm when I saw that color, and just imagining it on the Fino... "drooool"
And my vote is worth five.. why? Cause i really want to see that color on a Fino.. lol

Based on your comments, I'd like to see this color in person..... what production car can I see it on?

you are living my dream of building a fino. Someday i will too, oh yes i will.... Keep us posted with progress guys and plenty of pics. KILLER CAR !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It looks like more orangish in the sunlight. My vote is for a graphite/peuter silverish color. What sort of rims do you have in mind for the car? Thanks for the updates

I had that blue Fino image as my desktop image for a long time. Thats a great color. Clean but not too flashy (although the orange on the Saleen is amazing). I like the tailights on that Fino instead of the regular setup. Anyone else agree?

Ahh..first gen Miata taillights. Love the blue color on the car too.
Not sure as to my opinion on the taillights. I'm not a huge fan of the small circles look, but then again, I like it on these cars. Hmmm...
BTW, I want to offer my vote to Archie for some metallic shade of blue. Quasar Blue that someone mentioned above is a great color, and so is the Admiral Blue that Chevy used from 94 to 96 on the 'vette. In 96 it was the blue color for the Grand Sport car.

Archie, do you lose the trunk space with the kits? Are the wings removeable for engine work?
Actually the trunk area increases a little bit because the body above the trunk area is a little higher.
As you can see in the 2 pics. above there is a seam where the wing attaches and if you feel it necessary you can set it up to be removable at that point. We also have perfected a way to make the quarter windows removable and are detailing that method in our Video Instruction Tape.
As you may know, I've never worked on a Fiero with a stock engine (other than taking it apart) I do kow however with a SBC engine you tend to spend much more time showing the engine off than you spend working on it.

Archie, I was just wondering if you still had the body parts from the car before you took it apart. Im interested in the passenger fender, rear fascia, and the aero package if they are available. Let me know the availablity and some prices. Thanks
