ditch the green wheels for black volk racing SE-37s
of course 18s all the way around...
[edit] or why not black with an orange pearl and Bronze TE-37s? the Black with orange pearl looks like root beer.. there is a turbo/n2o Integra at the shop shot like that. it was in the EP booth for NOPI last yeah.
or white with white or blue wheels. i've seen a few vetts and a Lotus like that.
If we are giving suggestions, I would say that I personally like the miata lights, I also thought about this:
ARCHIE
Have you thought about making the lights with a glossy silver around the lights and then adding a clear (or red) cover over all the lights.. much like in the 3000GT, except clear (or red). Might add to the -look- and would definently set it apart from the other finos. Also, I would love to see a different style of lights up front as opposed to the generic lights you can pick up from NAPA.
HID's kits are around $600 but come with ballasts and 2 lights. You would need to find an additional light pair for highbeams, but would also give you more of that exoctic look. **The reason why you would need another light set is because the gas that burns in the HID lights takes time to heat up, there for you would need just your average projector lamp for high beams. (It only takes a few seconds to heat up, but it is safer to have the 2 lights set) Have a look at any of the new lights out there on the new sports cars, they have it, the best example is the Benz and Audi's.**
I also think that you can get a nice looking scoop on the hood like on the Ferrari 550. instead of the reversed beveled scoop on the current model *personal preference*
As far as the paint is concerned, go with a darker primary, and then accent with silver. I'm not sure if you have ever seen it before, but in the silver, make there be dark acsents almosts as if the paint were liquid.... I'll see if I can show it with 3d studio max when I get home.
I think it would look mean and fast and sexy!
Just my 2 cents.. but hey, if you don't do it, I will.. so *shrug*!

You know.... I hate this..... I was pretty sure of 2 things a few days ago. 1) I was sure that a Silver would be the best choice & 2) I KNEW that I didn't care for that Orange shade. Now I'm confused big time. Silver is no where near a "Lock", I like the Green, I'm still very curious about the Orange and I know the Blue would be a "safe" color.
In this buildup I'm trying to show you how easily the Fino/Finale is to assemble. But as it turns out, I'm showing you how difficult it is to pick the "right" color. So at this point in this conversion the ease of assembly is overshadowed by the complexity of the color choice.
Darn....... I wish someone here was the boss.

ahem. Since there is no one in that position, I'll take that. Ok then, Arch, paint this car a polo metalic green, make the interior tan and put a peice of custom fabricated brushed aluminum aroun the tail lights where you usually paint it black.
There, solved all of your problems didnt it?

It looks 10 maybe 11 times better on a clear sunny day because it brings out the gold and orange.
I thought about painting my Fiero this color. I might use this color on the next, but I'm not sure, probably not. I like the color, it's awesome, but I'm looking at other ideas.
Picking out a color can be tough that's for sure!

I'd love to see it in that kind of Green too- It'd stick out in a crowd & look quite exotic at the same time. And you'd even be able to keep the gray interior! Anyone have any good photos of the Fino to photoshop..? maybe tomorrow.
Heh.. i like what i started with the sunset orange metallic.. When i was typing that I was talking to my friend about the sunset colors on the Camero, but what i meant to type in there was the burnt orange metallic, the one that is on the new sunfire. Sorry, i was typing one thing and thinking a mother... lol
bah... well anyways... You don't like that color Archie? I don't think it is "ricey". I know that ever since I saw that picture a few weeks ago of that color, I have wanted to paint my car that color. I think on the Fino body style, especially the hood, that color will KILL!
anywho, sorry bout the confusion, that sunset is a decent color as well, but i would go with the silver before the sunset.. I think you should go with the burnt orange! please?!
I actually have HID lighting on my Fiero, I've mentioned elsewhere how much I *totally love it!* so I won't again
See my recent post 'sliding fiero vid' and compare my car to the other one... THAT is the difference between HID and high wattage halogen!
They do start *very* quickly...(less than one frame of video, or 30ms) Fast enough for high beams as well. There's only that odd orange flash as the ballasts 'spike' the gas to get the arc going.

There's H4 HID conversion kits at a local sport compact shop for only $220, I'm thinking of picking them up. the output of the "lowbeam" HIDs puts out more light of the high beam halogen bulbs... using a fraction of the wattage too.
Archie, How about letting Martin and Rob pick the color. After all these guys should have some say so in this project, seeing as how they are doing the work. You have let the PFF list pick the name of your other car and it doesn't seem fair that they don't get a chance to have a voice in this. I am sure they have some voice but I think it is time that they get to have the final say in this one. My vote is, let the staff pick the color.
Just my $.02

Not that I would ever keep someone from getting the honor of picking the color...but isn't working on super-fieros enough? I know I'd trade them a few terms at college in exchange for a few months working at Archie's shop!
Well this color thing has me real messed up. Since I can't make up my mind 'cuz I got no clue anymore, I'm gonna do what rgeeinc suggested and leave it up to my help to pick from the colors you all have suggested.
AS this has been going on we have been making limited progress on the Fino. One of my guys has been out sick all week, so it's been just me and Rob (mostly Rob) working on the car part time this week.
Maybe we can't decide on color, but we can put it together just fine.
So let me bring you up to speed.
You'll recall that we had completely trial fitted the body to the chassis. So now we are taking it apart and cutting out the vents, holes etc.
First thing we are going to do is the rear clip. In the area where the plates will mount you have several options. The body starts out not having this plate mounting area (blue circle) it is a seperate piece that comes with the kit. Also the lower Facia come with a plate mounting area incorporated into it(blue area). Many people like the body style where the whole area under the taillights is uninterrupted by the "plate pocket" & they just mount the plate in the lower facia.
Others' opt to install the plate pocket and leave the other plate mounting area in the rear facia like it is in the picture above.
OR, you can mount the plate pocket and Glass in the plate mount area in the lower facia Similar to this.
We are going to do it like it is on the Silver car above.
We pull the rear clip off the car and do most of the work off the car. Most of this can be done on the car but we like to do it like this.
Here we've cut the hole for the plate pocket.
Here we have glassed in the pocket. It was glassed from the back and filled from the outside. Details of this are in our Instruction Video tape.
Here we have cut out the vent slots and we have the tail light openings ready for the tail lights. Details are in the Video instructions. The beauty of working with Fiberglass panels is that you can easily change the cars' configuration. If you think a certain tail light would suit you better you can craft it in very easily. If you want to you can fill in the vent slots (these slots are for looks only, I assure you there is plenty ventillation without them. The nice thing about building a body style of unique design (as opposed to a replica) is that you can make lots of changes without later having someone tell you that your idea of what looks good "is not true to the original".
This picture shows the rear clip with the modified facia trial mounted to it. Some sanding and finishing are yet to be done on the facia.
Archie, How about adding some red lights to the slots in the back? like for brake or running lights? lol Maybe make them go back and forth like "kit" on knight rider!!

Looking good my friend. Keep up the good work.. and let me know what your are thinking about doing for the headlights...
I at one time thought about doing something sweet for the lights.. the tail lights that is.. I'll email you about it Archie, it would retain the same tail light config but... it would add a twist and put you back in the loop again with another 'first' in fiero history...not that you need any help of course!
I'll see if I can't get a few sketches on the computer to give you the idea and works of the lights system.

Ok, I realize im probably gonna get hammered here for this lil remark but I honestly think Archie should paint it 86stock gold with a offset glossy black racing stripe and powdercoat the rims black or some type of chrome rim I think that would just look awesome and how many gold fino's do you see..well for that matter how many gold cars period. If you get the stock gold it has pearl in it makes it look pretty sweet really..=)

The work on this project has slowed a bit because we have to work on customers cars sometimes too. And the customers that order parts expect me to ship them to them in a reasonable amount of time. We also have sold 2 Finale kits in the last several days and we have to get them crated up.
We also have been working on getting everything ready for the trek to Daytona.
That brings me to the sad news, we've determined that this Fino might not be done properly in time for Daytona. Our estimates show that we will have only 3 or 4 more full days before the Daytona show that we can devote to this car. I know we will have the body & Video Instruction tape finished well before then but the final paint and finish work will not fit into the time I have available.
But, fear not..... we will make this one worth waiting for & WE will bring one of our other Fino's to the show.
Tonight we cover the mounting of the headlights, parking lights and the door handles.
Here we have finished the drivers side headlight mounting to show you what our goal today is. Notice that we are using a Gray headlight surround to make it a little easier to see.
From the original Fiero we use the headlight, headlight trim ring, adjusters
and the metal bucket that the headlight sits in.
We use a hole saw to cut out the hole (marked in the FGlass) to clear the plug in the back of the headlight. We also trim square holes to mount the headlight adjusters. (red arrows) And we put in a hole to accomidate the headlight mounting spring. (red circle).
The headlight fits right into the packet, just like this.
Trim and fit the trim ring according to the Video Instructions and it looks like this.

The parking lights also come with the kit and are pretty easy to fit to the inside of the front clip. The light looks like this
And Slips into the pocket from the back side. You can either glue it in or make up some simple brackets to mount it. We prefer to glue it in with something like 3M Windoweld.
There is not much else I can say about the parking lights they mount in real simple and you move on.
We move on to the door handles.
The Door handle mountings are covered in detail in the Video Instruction tape.
As you can see all the original Fiero door handle parts are mounted to the new fiberglass door skin just as they were mounted to the old doof skin. You have to drill a couple of holes in the new door skin and open up a slot, then bolt it on.
