..... the fact is that I have reached the point that it is not necessary for me to participate in this forum as I have all the information that I need to enjoy my Fiero and will enjoy it to the max.... I am out of here.... thank you to all who answered with straight facts

hey .."dumbshit".. the key word was 'participate'.. I never said I was leaving the forum.. "out of here" meant that I don't care about what a SBC weighs any more and was done with this thread....Just goes to show that some of you have no comprehension skills, and /or rewrite what was said to boost your fragil ego's.. AND I never said that a V6 was a better engine for a corvette.. but I did come to the conclusion for ME, that it would be better for "ME" to buy a vette (convertible too)rather than swap in a SBC.. I think that an LS1 is an excellent choice for the Fiero ..but I don't want to explore that engine.. so ..carry on with your cheap shots..but stick to the true facts.. don't rewrite... )

You will have a ball over on VetteNet with Gene Slater. If you were both in Florida they'd probably lynch the two of you at once.

Should I take this a "threat" Dave..?
I really didn't think that you were stupid..but now, I am not too sure... You are crossing a line that you should think twice about before crossing..

Maybe you should take it as a threat. Of course, the treat wasn't from Dave. If you actually READ the post, you notice it says:
quote
If you were both in Florida they'd probably lynch the two of you at once.
Notice he refers to "they" as the people who'd be doing the lynching. Never did he suggest that he would do it. So, rather than a threat, it could be read as a friendly warning to prevent harm from coming to you - IF you heed the warning.
Now, where are those hounds!

I just read the first page and the 5th page of this thread, when I get a free weekend I'll have to read the whole thing! Can't we all just get along! Oh, since this is dealing with weight it would be a technical issue, shouldn't this be in the tech section (LOL)? At the sound of the bell continue!

I just made a phone call the the Local GM performance shop, figured what the hell. I asked if they had the weights of 5.7 crate motors. They told me the shipping weights minus the crate. 5.7 Ram Jet with Iron heads were 515 lbs (includes MPFI intake, water pump and Dist.) the Fast burn 5.7 with aluminum heads,Intake and water pump was 458 lbs mini starters add about 13 lbs. Just repeating what they told me.
And to add a bit more info, I just emailed South Florida Pulley Headquarters and asked about the shipping weight on a 3800SC crate engine. He didn't have an exact weight, but said it would be AT LEAST 400+ lbs. So it's within 50lbs or so of that huge dinosaur ZZ430 Dave is running. (If anyone can get official shipping weights from GM, please feel free to add them here.) So all those 3800SC swaps must have ruined their handling, too.
Oh, that's not taking into account the weight of the automatic. If you swap the 3800SC's 4T65 auto tranny in, your drivetrain will almost certainly weigh more than even an iron head 350 mated to a Getrag.
No 3800SC owners are complaining about ruined handling. No 350 owners are complaining about ruined handling. Sounds like people aren't having their handling ruined to me. So maybe you want to run a slightly stiffer spring in the rear. That's not a bad idea. GM does that if you get the automatic tranny, since it's heavier. If you're running lowering springs, you've already taken care of that. Problem solved.
Will the car handle differently? Probably. Just as a Fiero handles differently from a front engined car.
Now, can we put this to bed?

First you said it was funny, then an hour later you act surprised and ask if its a threat? Whats the point? Thought you where done here?
Because Dave edited it after I said it was Funny and added this - ..."You will have a ball over on VetteNet with Gene Slater. If you were both in Florida they'd probably lynch the two of you at once."
...And If you noticed I have NOT said anything more about the weight of a SBC.. I was just clearing up your misconceptions about what you have been posting after I said I was done. If you want me to stop posting then leave it alone..IE:..quit bringing up things that have nothing to do about the weight of a SBC.

I wanted to know what the weight of a SBC was, BECAUSE as Part of MY swap I was going to include a 4T60 auto tranny .. add the weight of that AND the weight of a SBC and it becomes obvious why I was wanting to know more exact figures than "somewhere around XXX" AND why I was concerned about the total weight and handling.. AND why I decided to go with the vette.. and a big plus is that i can get a convertible too...

I no longer participate in VetteNet because of guys like Gene Slater, and YOU, SanBerTardino. It's people like you, the bad apple, that ruin things for everyone else. Even if you aren't interested anymore in this weight discussion, many others are, and would like to learn and discuss without nitpicking over irrelevant details. You have not yet contributed one whit of useful information to this thread. So let it proceed quietly without you, okay? Thanks so much.

Just wanted to say that I've been driving both my '88 GTs a lot lately, often back-to-back around the area, and the handling of the blue V8 car is definitely the better of the two. It just seems to feel more buttoned-down. But I'll have to do more research on it. Think I'll go drive the blue one some more to be sure.
