I've always loved the GT40 & have lusted after one more than once.
I'm not one who has to have an EXACT replica, but many people want their replicas to be right on.
AASP took a GT40 body and modified it to fit on a stock Fiero chassis so the shape is off a little. On our project we are taking a correct GT40 body and modifying the Fiero Chassis to conform to the body, so that the lines are correct.
I've put V-8's into a couple of the AASP GT40's & the result has been very exciting. Even though I like the AASP kit very much, it has been on the market for at least 10 years and has never really been a big hit. I don't think they have ever sold more than 5 in any one year. Like I said I've always wanted one but on the few occasions I was ready to buy one, Jack was not in a "dealing" mood & wouldn't discount a body to me.
I personally can overlook the taller roof and other changes made to make it fit the Fiero because the AASP kit is so very cute.
Here are pics. of the one we put the V-8 in not too long ago...

The yellow car Archie dropped the V8 in is, I believe, the same car featured in the buildup I just posted! There is an article featuring the car in the same issue, less the V8 at the time. I would rather have the kit that requires the leat modification to my existing platform, if I wanted an exact replica of a GT-40 I think I would have to go with a full tube frame kit that uses the proper drivetrain configuration. The AASP kit is well worth the money and I would have one on my car if my cashflow, or lack of, let me!
