RACE, It is possible to replace the Notchback with a Fastback, in fact I am in the middle of doing it now. But I have one well maby 2 words of wisdom. #1 Make sure you have every part you need to do a smooth transition or it will become a major headache like mine. And #2 is have lots of patience. A good swap will be impossible to tell. A slopy one will put your name to shame. lol Check out www.Fiero.net There they have a documented swap that may give you an Idea how to do things. And you can ask me or any other fiero owners for help along the way, in fact I encourage it. Hope that helps!
You might talk to Alex2004. He is 17 I think. He did a fastback swap himself. It is very impressive. I have not seen his car lately but the first time I said. "I didnt know GTs ever came with 4 bangers". It is nice.

I would be curious to hear the final hours for the swap and cost of your project. Take a lot of photos. Thanks
I've never done it, but I've seen complete "kits" go for $200-400. Not to say you could find one at that price, but I've seen them advertised for that. Have also heard of people doing them in a weekend.
Nope. I like the notchy's better, except for the tail lights. But I'll take care of that
I'm in the same boat, what exactly are you doing to the tail lights? i noticed the one kit avail that is a combo of fastback & notchback lights that fits notchbacks

Well, someone might be making a new notchback tail light housing with 3 round lights on each side. And I'll buy it if he makes it. If not, I'll figure something else out. They're not staying stock, though. I just don't really like the stock lights. The lights on the fastbacks look pretty good, though. If all else fails, I'll get a fastback clip and 'notch' it

I like the notch alot better than the fast back I dont have any proof but I belive it has less drag it looks like more like a fiero to me. I am looking for an 88GT or formula if I get a GT I will change it to a notch and if it is a formula I will change it to the areo nose ground effects. My favorite is the 85GT But I want the better brakes and suspension. So if I get a GT I will be looking for some one who has a notch to trade with..

I wish you were closer...you could have my notch clip in a heartbeat. Notches are okay...but I LOVE GTs.
BTW - The Purple Pavement Eater began life as a fastback and got a special notched look during the chop. So strictly speaking it is not a notchback.

That might be worth a drive if you really decide to do a swap. I like both sets of lights so that is not a problem.
Before I got this car I did not realize how cool you could make them look. The amount of aftermarket products available is incredible. Nice work to all of you who have posted photos here.

i've done the fastback conversion....i bought the GTfx kit through pisa corp. I would rather have gotten a REAL rear clip, but either way it would have been really really hard. check out my cardomain for i have the process on there. http://www.cardomain.com/id/coop920

I like NOTCHBACKS 100 times better...I didn't like the plane nose on the 1984 models...which was what I had...so I swapped over to Aero which was not as diffucult as i'd imagine a notchback to fastback conversion to be. However, i'm looking for a fast back sometime soon so that I can make, what is in my eyes, the "UMTIMATE FIERO" ...1986GT Chop Top (3") with a 4.9L and Aus Scoops!
Mmmm...better then a Ferrari Replica if you ask me!
But I'm a fan of Fastbacks (check my car out if you wanna know why )

I like both models but when I got mine it had to be a areo nose notchback That's my favorite style. I like the fastbacks tail lights better tho, But with a notchback you can change the ugly looking tail lights with something better.
A notchback with a GT spoiler with the use of spoiler hightners is just phat

I dont particularly care for either style of tail lights. I like the "Pontiac" lit up in the fastbacks but dont really care for the actual tail lights. The notch lights are just too plain and boring. I havent figured out what Im going to do yet. If I want to do the round tail light thing, which I personally think looks like your trying to emulate a Corvette, or do something completely original or try and mount some from a different kinda car in there. I havent decided yet, but my car keeps me busy with other, less fun projects right now anyway
Coop9200 Are you planning on swapping the bumper also?
No offence but the conversions dont look original unless you swap the bumper nose and get ground effects.
yea i got the bumper in my garage, i'm just waiting to put the V6 in, and then it will go on. Also here is a pic of my car with ground effects...those other 2 pics are outdated...here is the newest one:

Coop that is a really cool conversion. It looks Italion.
I think I have decided to stay with the knotch back. I would like a fastback but money prevents me from getting one right now. When I am ready for a fast back I'll buy one that has the WS-6 suspension, more power and a manual transmission. Nobody said you can only have one, right?
I also prefer the notchbacks they are all that I will own. The fastback looks too much like a vega or something to me besides most of you guys fill in those little windows that were only put there to eliminate blind spots anyway. Kinda defeats the purpose but as said before to each his own.

Converting a notchback to a fastback is not very hard, time consuming but not hard. It can be done in a day with the proper tools and all the conversion parts needed
