Is anyone making a scoop simular to the indy scoop for the rear decklid? I know ebay has them on there but they're always boxy looking. I'm searching for one that looks like the origional.

There are only 2 places that make them.
FOCOA ~ If you can get ahold of them and If they like you, it'll run $350.

Showcars ~ They sell the original race car design. It has a large base offset to the passenger side. Cost is $189. http://www.showcars-bodyparts.com/fiero.html

Other than those, it's Ebay or if someone is selling a used one.

The scoop they show at www.showcars.com doesn't look offset in anyway. Is there something I'm missing?

Wow... whadda know, Showcars finally updated their page..

If you look at the scoop in that pic, you'll notice the 'box' that sits along the side of the scoop. I ordered the spoiler for my 84 from them. Its a slight bit bigger than the one goin on my coupe (got used). I think its cause showcars made actual reproduction pieces. It seems now as though they're making 2 different styles now...

Look at the middle pic. You can just make out the "box" that sits on the side. The intake of the scoop still sits in the center.

I'm really not wanting that box part. So to get a smooth one I guess my only options are FOCOA and used. I really don't want to try and deal with FOCOA though. Hopefully one will pop up before may, going to shoot paint then and all mods need done.

Oh BTW Oreif, do you have any better pics of where the decklid meets the scoop? From the looks of things you need a solid yet flat decklid? Modded '84 or what?

The scoop I got from IRM (they have since closed) had lines on the inside of the scoop. You left the bottom untouched for an 84, Trimmed an angle off for the 85-88 notchback, or trimmed the entire edge down for the 86-88 fastback body. Normally they have a hinge/latch method of mounting. I chose to use a bolt-on method for max air flow. Below are pics of my mount.

Orief covered all the bases already on the ones that I've seen on the net.

Here's the one I have. I don't think I've ever seen this one produced.

This one has working strobe lights. I bought it off someone here on the forum for my future Indy

Earl, did you buy that from beachbomb, down in Florida?

If not, that may be someone to check with. I think he had one for sale with working strobe lights a while back. Expect to pay top money for those... Usually $5-600 from what I have seen.

Oreif, If I understand you correctly your scoop is hardmounted to the decklid, then how does the decklid open?

Yes, that is correct. The scoop needs to be removed to open the decklid. I have heard too many stories of those with the latch/hinge setup where the latch jolted loose on a pothole and the scoop ripped off the car. Also the on that style mounting it uses a strut that requires a support wall to be fiberglassed inside cutting down airflow.

I was thinking 2 hood pins would hold down the front and having 2 would build in some redundancy just incase one pops.

That would work, With the original set-up there is some side to side play which probably causes the latch to weaken over time. Mine is solid and has no play. You have to push down on the rubber seal to put the bolts in. Sad news is, I may have to get rid of it. With my new engine swap I may need more clearence. I won't know until the new engine is installed. I may switch to the "showcars" version or go with the Mustang style decklid scoop. It all depends if I need the clearence or not. Latest calculations are I'll have 1/4" to spare but you never know until it's all mounted/installed.

Songman,

I bought it from Beachbomb about 9 months ago. Really $600 on Ebay, I guess I got a good buy, hmmmmmmm, maybe I should sell it Nope I'm keeping this one, It took me long enough to find one.

Orief I was wondering about the latch thing. I was worried that it might pop loose, I do like the idea about the hood pins or something simalar.

Maniac good luck on your search.

I have that same Indy scoop but mine is highly modified. I came up with the idea to motorize mine so when I hit mi trunk release, the scoop will motor back far enough to clear the roof when the trunk is open. I will post pics tonight if anyone is interested. I also added a third brake light to it.

Certainly sounds interesting to me- I'd like to see some pics of what you've done.

Had a problem the first time, trying again

This is the drive rig that I made to mount the scoop to. It actuates when I hit my trunk release switch.

This view shows that the scoop will be functional

This is the opening that will feed the cold air box that I will make for the 305 V8 w TPI that I am building. What do you all think. Let me know.

Heres the 3rd brake lite that I made.

Here it is in the open position. This is not the full open position because I have to modify the scoop itself.

Sorry to say, it will not be at the 20th. Currently, my car is in too many pieces to even think about driving anywhere. Hopefully, some day it will be done. Thanks for the compliment.

Just wondering, does anyone have any cleaner pics of the scoop showcars offers? I would like to get a better idea of the size of it. I may just end of going this way. Not a single indy scoop on ebay this whole month.

I was just looking over the street cars parts page and they're showing both styles of indy scoops. So I looked in the parts list and they're showing what looks like two different listings of scoops.

part #g3889 Air Intake Scoop Indy style 169.00, and

Part #g3896 Street Air Intake Scoop-5000style 169.00.

Makes a guy wonder.
