Well, we arrived at the track a little early so the guy wasn't out there yet to meet us. After driving around the place a bit because we weren't sure where to go the guy finally tracked us down. He took us up to the top of the race track to watch the different drivers work out thier cars a bit while he talked to us. Here is a shot of Jim Beabe, one of the Nascar officials talking to my Dad (87V6GT):
They didn't check over the Indy or anything. Here is a pic of one of the cars going around the track:
I mentioned to him about the over the roof scoop that the original Indy Fiero had back in 84, and how it had the pace car strobe lights built right into it. I mentioned to him how we were working on trying to have one just like it on my Indy in time for the race on the 24th. You can see in the pic my "official" photographer Jordan filming with one of the digital camcorders we brought today
Hmmm, I bet you are all wondering if I actually got to take the Indy out on the track today, huh?

Here is Jordan and I waiting for the track guys to allow us to drive down onto the track. They had to hold up the next group of race cars so we could go down onto the track.
Due to insurance purposes and the fact that they had to hold up some drivers, I had to follow one of the track officials out onto the track. Here we go:
Jordan was filming and did a great job! He had a great time going out onto the race track with his Dad in the Indy
I was then allowed to get out and take some shots with the camcorder while I was parked on the track:

Just remember to clean and detail your car to perfection the day you are pacing at the track. Don't want to give Fieros a bad name. It sounds like you are having a ball, Im jealous of you good fortune. Have a great time.

The pics that look kinda blurry are taken off of the footage from the camcorder. My Mom had the better digital camera and was snapping the pics from up top of the track.
In this picture:
You can see the X cross over in the center of the track. They said that they actually want us to pull off into that area when the race starts (and not off the normal area of the track as you see us do in the earlier pics). They said that way everyone in the stands can see the Indy Fiero on full display during each race. That also means that we will get a front row seat of the race(s), as we will be sitting right down in the center of the track.
We are going to work with them on seeing about getting some of the TV stations (Channell 9 out of Manchester NH, the local CNN affiliat, Channel 31 out of Burlington VT, etc) to come and film some of this as a news story. "Race fans and car enthusiests: Go back in time to 1984 and see what it was like to watch one of the most unique cars that ever paced a race, an Indy Fiero pace car, pace a race once again." Or something like that
This is going to be a blast!

Well that's just cool! Just a bit envious of you guys. Is Jordan going to be allowed to ride with you during the actual event? (I'm guessing, no.) That would make his day even more than today did.

All right! Looking good! That's where an Indy belongs, pacing a race in style. Can't wait for video and the actual race pics, and video
Did you show the official pics of the original Indy?
I told him I had all of that with me if him and his people wanted to look at it, including the pics of your Indy scoop. He said he didn't need it right then. he said what they do want sent to them within a week is a kind of publicity pack put together about the Indy Fiero. A detailed info pack made up that tells about the actual Indy Fiero Pace Car with pictures and then a little something about my Indy Fiero with pictures. He also wants a little blurb typed up about my Indy Fiero that can be read in about 30 seconds. He said they will have the race announcer read it before the first race to all the race fans in attendance.

You are correct. Though they let Jordan ride out onto the track with me in the Indy today, that was a whole different situation than on race day in front of thousands of fans with 20 race cars on the track, etc. They said I can have someone else in the car with me to take pics or whatever, but they have to be at least 16 years old.
So, who wants to be in the Indy with me taking pics?

Excellent! You guys are going to have a great time! And we're going to enjoy race day pics when they come.
You should get some of the Fiero crew from around there to caravan up and see it. How far is it from Texas? LOL
Seriously though, If this had been it I would have been more than happy, but as we all know this is merely a build up, a small preview of things to come in only two weeks

wow, Jordan must've LOVED that. too bad he can't go with you for the real thing. looks like you had a great time!
Yeah, I am kinda bummed that Jordan can't, but I totally understand where they are coming from. That just leaves an empty passenger seat for someone else to fill

Hey Steve & Jordan , I just think the whole idea is so damn cool . It's definetly a " Feather in the Cap " for Fieros . I'd be on pins and needles , waiting for the 24th of May . I'd have trouble sleeping .
You guys are going to have to install a " Rumble " seat in the hood area to accomadate all the people who will want to ride with you on race day !
Way to Go ! I'm proud of you guys .

As it looks like I will be pacing 5 races that night, as they are doing Nascar qualifying races I guess we could have people take turns riding with me after each race. Their web site has this listed: "NASCAR Modified “Triple Crown” Qualifier #1" I do not know Nascar much at all so others may know what that means more than I. The only problem with that idea is that they want me to pull off and park in the center of the track after the start of each race, so the Indy will be on display for all to see. So I am not sure how each rider could switch with me as I will be sitting in the very center of the track after I pace each race. I guess whoever rides with me is stuck in the Indy thru the whole evening

Hey Steve & Jorden , There will time to exchange passengers between each heat/race . You can meet them in the stageing area and switch there . Plus I'm sure there will be an intermission ( Gotta sell them hot dogs , popcorn and sodas ) .
Keep us posted !
Gave you a positive rateing , if I could give Jordan one I would do so .

Again, as they want us to pull off as the race(s) begin into the center area of the track, I do not think we will have anyway to switch riders as we will be surrounded by the track on the outside of us. I doubt that the Nascar or track officials will allow people to run back and forth accross the race track between races. One way to know for sure though is to wait until race day and see how it goes
So, is everyone getting excited about this yet? I know we are
