Do you have anything with a direct face shot of the wheels? Not an angled shot.
A bunch of us in chat were hashing over how that car sits so much in the 88 stance. We know the rep said 84-85.
If we could get a direct shot of the wheels, we could check for caliper position, and evidence/ lack of a rear trailing arm on the rear, and coolant tube and shock location on the front.
pulled a close up of the dash but it needs lightened.. . . do your stuff.. it looks much better on my camera than here . ... gonna have to get photoshop software and start playing... have you guys had any sleep since the show lastnight???

WHERE'S the totally cool PONTIAC light up sign in the back? The top model should always have that. Not like that cheap little Sunfire one, but like the '86-'88 GT.
I still think this is the Father to the GT fastback, not the son. So this said, I'm sure the rear tail lights were prototypes, so they did not get "Pontiac", put in until production of the Fastback came to life.

You can download PaintShopPro 7 from http://www.jasc.com it will have a 60 day trial period. Costs around ...hmmmm..$80 after that. It does 90% of photoshop stuff without such a steep learning curve
I'm pretty sure the rear tailights what light up "PONTIAC" just like the earlier fastbacks. I mean look at the space in the middle of the tailights, plenty of room.

nope. This is definately after our fastbacks were released. There is even a video that has surfaced where they are putting these together, and they are clearly prototypes for 89-90 models in the video.

You might be right. Keep in mind they also had multiple versions of this car. Then was this just the GTA version of the Coupe? Why would they not use the better looking GT version to make the 89/90 version. Why use the coupe steering wheel(4 cyl. version even). I'm sure this was on an older chassis, and was one of the earliest versions of the 89/90 that was in the works. Heck I did not know that the front bumper Areo Facia cover on the GT and SE was available in 83, but the Indy was the only one that got that look! I'm sure this and others prototypes, was just one of many versions they had to to show the GM execs how this car is versitile to change. I think the Four door version would have been the wrong way to go, stretching it maybe. So only Hulki would know for sure. If he is like the other Hulk(green one) we know, he only shows when angered

Look at how long these taillights are. Look at where the original deck lid is placed, and how much more fenderwell is on this thing. This would look too cool today if made into a kit. I'd find a way to put Corvette tires on the rear, and front! Look at the wing and facia as well, also extended, too cool. I wonder who has the molds for making the front and rear facia out of the flexi stuff, instead of a fiber glass piece? Still would settle for fiberglass!

I'm just wondering, why would GM take a 12 year old prototype, install new gauges in it, give it a fresh paint job (looks pretty fresh to me), put a Trans Am badge on the nose, and start showing it to the public??? They must have plans for it.

I can tell you why they wouldn't and couldn't build it and then sell it. Its 1989, you walk into a generic GM dealership, you WANT a corvette, BADLY, but your alittle short on funds.
But then the GM rep, after reviewing your credit history tells you, "The one on the left is half the price."
What would you do?

So in GM's wisdom the following situation was better?
So it's 1989, I walk into a GM dealership, don't have the insane amounts of money to spent on a big, heavy, all muscle corvette, yet I want a sporty two-seater that's fun to drive.
But then the GM rep, after reviewing my credit history tells me, "Jeez, man. Had you been here a year earlier I could have set you up with a beautiful new Fiero GT fully optioned, but GM just canned it. Can I interest you in a Cavalier/Sunfire(Sunbird at that point I think)?"
ME: "Uhh, NOOO! I want a sporty two-seater sports car that's within my budget. Say, buddy could you point me to the nearest Mazda/Toyota dealership, I hear the MR2 and the Miata are great cars and a blast to drive for a helluva lot less than your 'Vette. Bye."
Typical GM.
Edit: Sorry had Fiero GTA on the brain...

Me too... I've loaded these pages several times, on different days, and all I've ever seen are little red X's, except for the one pic of the taillights of the red one above, and a couple of gauge shots.. Anyone know why they don't work??

Me too!!! I have the suicide not written out . . . "Mom, this isn't your fault . . . It's those pics on the PFF!!! I can't take it anymore!!!
If i can get enough pictures and the correct wheelbase and tracking data it is technically possible to extract a 3D model of the car's body from all the pictures and then make a body kit E-mail FieroGTU@ptd.net For more info

After looking at all these GREAT pictures I decided to look up some info on the 89 and found an article writen in Pontiac Enthusiast Magazine Vol.1 Number 6 1995 about the 89 coupe and GT. Here's some of it on the GT: Before the announcement came in March of 88 the design studio had the next generation car already finalized for production tooling. The glass and upper structure remained unchanged, except for the fact that they would become a design element and would be painted black, separating the upper from the body color. The rear sail panels extented past the more vertical rear window, producing a buttress effect. Styling had never been a problem with the press since day one, the designers wanted the new GT to look like it came right off an IMSA race track. The body side was more a combintion of a "body shoulder" running the length of the car, and below it a slab side that pulled out the rockers and firmly planted the body on a set of 16-inch cross-laced wheels. Sculptured air intakes in the front of the quarter panels ran the length of the door, tapering down toward the front. The fascia also intergrated the side marker light and front turn signal into a receesed pocket. The rear end got more aerodynamic, as the rear edges were squared off, allowing the air to leave the vehicle more cleanly at high speeds. the spoiler remained unchanged The interior group had not made any great changes. The new interior would have featurned new colors and fabrics, as well as resigned door panels.(they must not have been very familiar with the old dash from these new pictures). The Fiero planners were on track with the suspension changes in 1988 with power steering not far behind. But this was only Phase 1-with the fresh stlying, the new HO Quad4 and the possibilites of a 3.8 or even 4.3 Tuned Port V6 to follow. A GT Fiero would have been an unbelievable machine. And just think--a GT roadster might have made the Miata a flop!
The article also shows the pictures of the coupe and the dark silver and red GT's. The dark silver has all the emblems on it including the Pontiac logo on the rear tail lights, the red one doesn't have any. The pictures of the clay GT model do show a set of Ferrari style mirrors on it but it looks like they went back to the old style.
If you go www.fireoshop.com then go to Gallery then click on Fiero Exteriors you will find three dark silver 89 coupes in what looks like a GM bone yard of cars. They are not good quility picks but maybe some one can put then on this site.
