My wife even admitted the Fiero way out classed the Vette of the same generation.
But now it is 2002, and the Vette is in a different class all together, and I think the Fiero and Vette would not compete for sales, and that the Fiero could be produced and not hurt the Vette sales one bit.

Absolutely outstanding contribution to this forum. That is one sharp looking automobile. I believe that the Fiero GTA was the 1990 model though not the 1989. Regardless I now have a nice set of prints on photo paper thanks to a generous Forum member. GM probably killed this model as it was just too much car for the Corvette Division to stomach. If you look at the performance figures for the late 80's Corvette vs the say 87 Fiero they are very similar. At 1/3 the price, I'd buy by the Fiero. I would imagine others may share the same opinion.
i guess i'm alone in thinking that the 86-88 GT looks far better than the prototypes. it has more of a "sportscar" look to it, where as the protoptypes look more like musclecars. basically the car looks extremely heavy. it looks like it should weigh about 3600 lbs. the fastback gt looks more like a ferrari, more european, more... exotic. there are styling elements that i like, such as the front turn signals and the side intake ducts, but it just looks like i would need a mullet to drive it, and that's just something i can't do.
Scarecrow, I totally understand what you're saying, though I think if GM would move the wheels further towards the ends and lose the huge overhangs, that would do much to improve the design. Of course, I have (had) the same problem with the F Bodies; Chevette wheelbase with an Impala overall length. It just looks tacky.
The Saleen S7 can teach us a lot about this problem, however, it has huge outer dimensions (save for height) but weighs a LOT less than the similarly sized (and pudgy) Lamborghini Murcielago. There is a stability that can be earned with a long wheelbase, and overall cornering prowess from overall width; and the Saleen teaches us these can be achieved without adding heft.
This would be an excellent formula for the Fiero pictured here; just make it long(ish), wide(ish), with short overhangs, and low weight.
Incidentally; if the Lotus Elise-based Opel Speedster does in fact become the new Fiero, it follows this exact formula.
With Lamborghini announcing the new "Stella", Audi contimplating a new model based on that same chassis, Toyota's 2 new models, the GT-R, a new BMW MR Supercar, and more in the wings; it should be an interesting next couple years.
this would have been the death of the Vette. The V8 of choice could have been front to back and taken on the supercars, Lambo...etc or did you want more trunk room ?? the performance of a exotic at half the price of a Vette..... oh they would have been very upset with us overseas
I must be the dumbest guy here. I can get nothing out of this photoshop. Can someone send me some brief instructions on how you are changing color and whatnot like that.
Oh wow Give that car more modern suspension, a little aluminum in place of steel to lighten the weight, and a Longitudal mounted LS1 or even 280x280 SC V6 from the new Grand Prix (with a Vette tranny to handle the power), and you have a car that can truly cause havoc. I would buy it without thinking twice.
...of coarse, someone will post something about how the Neon will still be a better car because it can dodge cones in a parking lot j/k

Actually, in the one '89 silver "Stealth" pictured, the PONTAIC was done in paint.

Two things. 1)All those suggestions you mentioned would almost make this Fiero close to the same price as a Vette, and would make it a cheaper Vette. We want to make it a Fiero, so put an engine like the 3800SC would be perfect, but keep the Getrag. 2)The only thing the 2001 or newer Neons have, for claim to fame, is the fact they were this first car ever to be fully designed all on a computer. No clay models or actual building of prototypes. Built strait from computer design specs. Still would not buy one, mostly because they fill the radiator with Mexican water
This is not related to the original thread, but I just had to make a footnote here.
Kameo now has a picture sig, which is super, but in reality, it doesn't even come close to doing this car justice! If you guys want to see a unique, well done tasteful CLEAN Fiero, get Kameo to post up some pics of his black GT! Like Archies' Stinger, it has to be seen to be believed.
Note: This is just the opinion of the poster and is not a paid or solicited endorsment!
Very, very nice! Oh, and the prototype pics are "real"!

I have NO other information than what I'm posting here, so don't ask me for more details because I don't have any.
First off, I met Kameo Kid this last weekend and he is a nice guy...... his car is even nicer.
On Sunday I think I got too much Sun and by the time we got out of there I was not feeling too well. I had planned on driving all the way home after the show but just wasn't feeling well. So, I drove about 50 miles and stayed at a Motel in the Toledo area. Got some rest and felt a lot better and left for home at about 5am. I tuned the radio around looking for an Oldies station. I ended up on a station from the Detroit area. I don't know the station designation but they called themselves the "Official station of the Woodward Cruise". The had an interview with a gal who is a VP for Pontiac. She was telling of what they were going to have in their display at the cruise. Now, this is the weird part..... She said they would have the GTO from that XXX movie, the Sunfire (that Kameo had posted) AND GET THIS "Several other historic prototype cars that were shown at the resent such & such Hot Rod show in Louisville".
That's all she said, I have no more info than that.
Hmmmmm
Archie
Edited because I forgot to mention 2 things.
She said the Pontiac display would be at 13th and Woodward.
Also Regretfully, I have family stuff to take care of next weekend and, as much as I'd like to, I can't get up there this weekend.

I don't think Double wishbone would raise the price too much. I mean if they could get it into the last Gen Civics!!! As for the LS1, that is the dream engine that most people would love in their Fiero. Light and powerful. I see no reason to not put it in. Pontiac even tested a few Fieros with V8's. I suggested the Vette tranny because it can handle plenty of power without breaking. I figure between $25k and $30k. As for competing against the C5, yes it would probably win. But probably not against the C6.
As for the Neon thing...well I was making referance to the Fiero vs Neon thread.

Archie, that's all I needed! This website... http://www.dreamcruise.org/ ... has a forum, and several of us should be searching for anything we can find in there which might help!

The email for the program director of the radio station in my earlier post was returned as unknown user. So I faxed him to request contact information of the recent guest from Pontiac/GM who made the statement quoted by Archie (if it was in fact that station).

I know the Vette engine is what everone would like to have. But, here's the thing, if Gm killed the Fiero because the price was cheaper for the performance, but yet they allowed the Firebird to become the "Steel Corvette". I'm not sure why this is, I don't like sitting in a Camaro or Firebird, the seats just don't feel right to me. I don't feel like I'm in control of the car, or somthing, I can't explain it. Anyone else feel uncomfortable driving these cars?
i've been busy and looks like it takes $$$ to get the prototypes to your show.. can anyone post all the info or link to the 20th anniversary show next year..
