i though about that today. When its just the lights on suring daylight they're pretty dim but probably not too much dimmer than normally during the day. Brake lights are brighter like normal but probably a little bit dimmer, dunno never really looked at my own brake lights before but they are clearly visible, plus theres the little 3rd light also

Someone said they wanted to see them on a silver car?
To answer someone else's question, they are not as bright as they were without the overlay, but they are still visible in daylight. Edited to remove licence plate number.

I like the look of this mod, but in general I don't like the idea of a blackout over the lights. Fieros are hard enough to see without reducing the brightness of the lights in anyway.
Still, I'd like to experiment with really sheer fabric and maybe brighter bulbs. It might work out okay.

Yes, you can see my "Dead sexy body..." (as per fat bastard) in the tail light. As long as they are clean. Also, the sheer fabric that I had in there originally blocked almost all of the light. So I redid it with 2 layers of cheap black pantyhose and it looks exactly the same on the outside, with almost no light reduction in brightness. Whomever first did that really made this mod. By the way, anyone think I could actually maintain the speed limit in the circle? Seems a bit high. Maybe with all the other cars gone and some autocross tires... Edited to remove repeat signature.

Sheerer fabric would let more light out. For those who did the black panty hose I think they went 2 layers to get the real blackout, you could try one layer. Brighter bulbs are possible too, but they run about $4 each and you need several. If you have the 3rd brake light, which I think all fastbacks do, it's not a prob for people to see you. I got pulled over twice for other reasons since I did it and the cops never even mentioned tail lights. It looks like it's supposed to be that way so they didn't notice.
You can also eliminate the sheer fabric entirely. When I first came up with the idea I went that route first. Didn't like it too much since I wanted blackouts, but the mesh effect was totally there.
Try it, if it doesn't work for you, you lost about $10 and an hour or 2. Not a big loss.

Ever see the tailights on an old 87 thunderbird ? I used to have one. The tail lights looked somewhat similar to the notchback lights but taller when they were off. But as soon as you turned them on or hit the brakes they produced a three round lens corvette like effect. With an extra light of course. Would be a neat effect to reproduce on the fiero

Yes, it's window screen...No, you can't see the colored part during the day or night (it's just the flash that's making it show up), It's still as bright as before...I know because I rigged up on tail with the screen and left the other without and they were the same...These look positively wicked in the daylight. 3 layers of screen out of household windows and you're done. I had the "PONTIAC" 'screened out' too, but it just didn't look right...
