Just thought I'd share my current project. I'm still working on them, so any comments are welcome. Heres a few pix. As you can see I modified the hood a bit to make for more light output. From the side New parking/turn signal location Night shot And one from the front One more that shows how the lights dont bolt to the hood, but the car. Unlike other flushmounts. I have to start the fiberglass work for to make them look good, but they are way brighter than factory. Anyone know what the lights are from?, If you can see them that is. I got more pix from the start of the project and I can take a few more if anyone is interested. Like I said I'm still working on them, since I'm not 100% satisfied yet.

I used these. Chevy truck diamond plate parking lights. I had to modify them a little, but they look awesome IMO. I put projector lights in the factory turnsignal location. Still need to get Xenons for those as you can see, bu the light output is cRaZy! I love it. I recently bought Diamond Plate H4 conversion light for the factory setup, I'll sell them for the right price if anyone wants them.
I was going to do mine exactly like that, I even drew it up in photoshop to see what it would look like. Im glad someone did it, because Ive since redesigned my idea, and its way different now.

More pix. From a distance Hood popped front Hood popped from rear Fixed lights, hood popped Close up lights Hood popped 3/4 This one show where I bolted it to the fender and fron bumper, and the yellow shows where the fiberglass housing will cover. If anyone wants more pix or has any questions just let me know. Thanks for the comment, I'm glad they don't just look good to me. I was worried that they were starting to turn out like crap.

WOW!!! I was leaning away from flush mounts and going for the slim conversion but after seeing this I like this ALOT, was it alot of work because it sure looks like it, You should design a kit, these are by far the best ive seen yet, IMHO.

I started working on this after work one friday and finished them that sunday night. I'd start in the morning and work til like midnight. I had no real plan as far as how to secure them to the car or how to bolt the plexiglass down. I just knew i wanted to trim the hood and I wanted the lights to be fixed to the car. I licked out with wiring the driving lights. All I did was wire them to the wires that powered the headlight motors, so they come on when I turn on my headlights.

1. Would it still be possible to mount them in the normal location? (I want to be able to return to stock)
2. Why don't you make two different "kits"? One with your set back lights (with cutting template, of course) and one with just a replacement for the motor/lamps? I would buy one, if the price fit my wallet (Tom wants some $200 for his, and I don't like that they're not covered, that and they look bad IMO)
3. Where did you order the lenses from?

I thought about doing the 300zx swap also, but I wanted to relocate the turnsignals, so I did decided to just make them myself. About the lenses, here you go. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1849370366 Over all it didnt cost much to do. plexi-glass-$5.00x2=$10.00 sheetmetal-$3.00x2+$6.00 lenses-$30.00 screw/bolts-$2.00 ------------------------------ one of a kind flushmounts for less than $50 bucks.

I'd like to start by saying that if you're whining about $200 for Tom's kit- you'd probably be floored at what a kit that involves cutting & finishing would cost... if you want removable, spend the $200 and go with it. If you don't like the non-covered design... make a cover. There are some in the works right now which should cost in the area of $50-$100 if you wait long enough. Someone will post when they're ready.
As for you not liking the looks of Tom's headlights... Why would any simliar conversion look much different? And why not make 'em yourself then? I've seen a couple of hand-made custom sets (some from wood)... and it's really not that complex of a design. Just get some tools and start trimming and gluing!
As for a kit for this... even the basic parts would be great... keep up the great work.
BTW: If my post sounds a bit harsh... it may be. But I think people who complain about the cost of a hand-made custom product- should try mass-producing (or even 1-offing) a product themselves. It's usually a lot more work than it seems. Sorry for the rant- it's just one of those days.

I know what you mean Minn. BTW I cant wait to see those lexan covers for Toms kit. Wonder how similar it will look to mine. So do you people think it looks ok with the headlight opening enlarged? Or is it too much?

I think yours will still be quite unique. I think the enlarged opening looks sweet! It kinda reminds of a Ferrari or something of that level exotic... espeically since the hood opens separate from the lights- I really like the shape the hood creates then.

I love your flushies...Those are some of the wickedest set yet!!! I'm working on a simular and ever larger design as we type... If this design does'nt satisfy me then I'm going the 300Z way!! As everyone know's that I have to design and the RE-deisgn EVERYTHING it seem's like .. wish me luck too...

No offense, But I kinda hope your not happy designing them yourself, just so I can see it with the 300zx conversion. But judging by your past work, they will come out as awesome as the smoothGT. Good luck, and dont for get to post some pixs from start to finish, to show me what I did wrong.
P.S. What lights/lenses are you planning on using?

No offense, but the first time I saw 4 beam flush type headlight setups on Fieros I went "yuck!".. well I thought, maybe I'll let them grow on me a bit.. well year later... bzzzt! I still dont seem to like them. They make the front of the car look like a fresh water eel with squinty lil eyes or somthing,, lol *shrugs* not sure what it is, just doesnt look right on the Fiero well maybe Ill give them another year to grow on me..?

Rob would you pay $460.00 dollars for the Cadaver style headlights?
Thats what Black Rain would be looking at to get them sent to his door, in his own dollars.
Now you might see why he is concerned with the price.
BTW Hybrid, you flush mounts look great! The design blows the other styles out of the water.
Keep up the good work!

Each to their own is what the Fiero is all ABout. I stated the process of the covers since I wnated them and didnt care about price!!!! Other forum members have the same attitude as I do. We want factory looks and will pay for it, Others go to Kmart and it looks like Kmart.
But I like Hybrids design alot.. Pretty cheap and llok good, but labor is the real expense in any project!
Not a flame to annyone on the board ok

Well, Jelly kind of made a point that I was going to make. I'm more than capable of doing it myself, but I'd rather spend the time with things other than a sheet metal press.
I really like his lights, and I figured I might have time to do them, but if I don't? Why not let someone else do them for me, and get an extra dollar or two in the mean time? *Extra dollar is within reason, not $100USD*
I asked what lights he used for a reason, I might give it a try, and I personally (even though returning to stock would be nice) think his lights look great. If he can achieve the same results without modding of the hood required (that much easier for the consumer), he could sell a lot.
Anyways, keep up the good work, they're great.

The beauty of these headlights is that they're larger than the other ones out there and therefore look more "natural" (IMHO, of course). Don't worry about being able to return to the stock headlights. Hood are a dime a dozen. I'm surprised that nobody has jumped on the legality wagon yet. Before anybody does, remember that driving around without a cat is illegal, too. As long as it's a safe mod (in this case, good light output), who cares as long as you don't have to deal with inspections.

What's the Height and Width of these lights? They may be cheaper option for people wanting to add a Driving Light/Signal Light combination in the stock signal light location... Anyone??

I dont like any of the flush mount kits ive seen. But i like yours. The modified hood is the best way to go IMO, makes them look like they came there and not some cheap add on. I dont think id put them on my present GT but if i had a black fiero, id put them on it. (I just think they'd look best on a black car )

before any of you jump on the 300Z lites, know that there will be considerable glass work required. The front of the Fieros hoods are mostly straight across at the front near the ends where lites go. Almost a 90* turn to the sides with only a very slight rounded corner. The 300 lites are glass (therefore not modifable) and the front edge is very distinctly curved. They barely fit in the F40 kits which were designed to fit them. My hood is cut out in the corners around my flush headlites too so that they stay down in the nose when hoods open. The lexan fits the larger opening perfectly, in fact those seams are the tightest ones on the whole car. People who dont know think mine is built that way from the factory for which I take great pride. The sides of my lexan are painted body color so it looks like the clear glass is a separate piece that no one can figure out how its mounted. There velcroed on for ez access and cleaning, and I havent lost one yet in 2 years and I assure you they have been thoughly 'speed' tested I have seen a few done that were OK, but a bead of silicone around the glass doesnt look too professional.
Do you guys who have done these swaps, particularly the home made swaps have any problems passing inspections? Seeing as they are parking lights used as headlights it seems like a more compitant inspector would fail it for not being DOT approved as headlights. Just out of curiousity would LT1-era Camaro headlights work? Ive been eyeing them...

Glad to see the ideas working out for you. For those who havent seen mine> BTW, stock headlites could be replaced back in in less than an hour, but hood would have to be repaired/replaced.

I'm interested in the deminsions, also.
BTW, they look great. Best looking flushmounts I've seen. I think them being bigger is what makes them look better. The hood looks cool, too.

I love projection lights, but they look at lot better right at the front of the normal headlight location, rather than the back. If I feel adventurous eventually, I'd love to copy the Camaro headlight setup on my Fiero...

Hybrid, we need dimensions , man! I am thinking of doing something like this but I need more info. How did you have to modify the lights? How many lenses did you use? it looks like 4 is the magic number. Help us out.
