Hi, I am pretty new to this forum. I've been reading till my eyes bleed. Lots of great info here. Thanks to all that post.
I am a old/new Fiero owner. In 1986 I bought a 2m4 off the dealer lot without ever driving it. After a few years of family life and a baby on the way I sold it for a price I would not care to admit. ;-/
Well now that baby is 14 years old and I decided it was time to get another Fiero.
I bought a 88 coupe 2.5 5 speed with 100K from a local dealer. I've decided since it REALLY needed a paint job and the interior was a mess, I would gut the interior.
Next month the car goes to the paint shop for a color change. Then I get to start putting it back together. Wish me luck... http://www.informx.com/fiero/

Welcome to the madness! As I told another new member, this place is like a soap opera, with some Fiero information added! You've got a nice looking coupe there...a good place from which to start!

Hi, Thanks for the welcome. It's getting a color change. I've looked at almost every picture on the forum. I've decided on Black exterior and a gray interior. I have aquired all the parts I need to re-build the interior. As soon as she gets back from paint I'll start to re-install the interior.
This is my first major car project. I did a Mustang once, but that was 30 years ago.
I do have some help, a good friend has done a number of restorations. The guy that works for me used to be a car mechanic in a number of dealerships. They are both being a lot of help.
As you can see from the pics, I'm removing all the trim to make it easier to get a good color change paint job.
I'll post progress pics as I make changes. I will be replacing the battery holder next weekend and removing the final pieces of trim.
I've been reading till my eyes bleed. Lots of great info here. [/URL]
Wait til your finger goes numb from all the mouse clicking! And for your topic question, there'll always be another idea you want on another Fiero... Welcome and have fun!

Hey Tweeker , Welcome To The Forum ! It's good to see another Floridian on PFF . There are four really stong and active Fiero Clubs in the Florida Area . It may be a good idea to get hooked up with one . Becomeing associated with a Fiero Club will save you hours of throwing tools and money . Plus it's great to get together with other Fiero Fanatics .
I've posted a link to the Suncoast Fiero Club in the St . Petersburg/ Tampa area . It also has links to other Florida Fiero Clubs .
Thanks for the welcome. I'm on the east coast between West Palm and Vero Beach. I'll look into the Space Coast and West Palm clubs.
Yes, the clicking and pointing is starting to get to me. Maybe it's all the buy it now and paypal I seem to be using. ;-)
I have all the gray parts I need to re-build the interior. I'm just going to wait untill it comes back from paint to install the interior.
If all goes well this will not be my last Fiero. Once it's done I HOPE my 14 year old daughter will like it. She can't see the potential, I hope after the paint she will.
I'll teach her to drive it and keep it running. I don't expect her to change the oil, just know when and where to take it.
If that works out I'll find a 88 Formula, V6 5 Spd ... I really prefer the NotchBack to the GT. so I'm pretty set on waht I think the next one will be. Steve

Well, I took my Fiero into the body shop for a color change to black. The shop is a Dodge dealer here in the area. The body shop manager is a friend of one of my employees. He has been there over 20 years.
The manager asked me 2 questions, What color do I want to paint it and "Do I want it black or do I want a car I could be proud of?" I of course I chose the latter. He quoted me 3 weeks to do the work.
My baby has been in the body shop for 1 week as of today. I decided to go see her and see how they were comming. To my surprise They decided to pull the body panels so they could do a better job on the color change. I'm so pleased I'm speechless! It's getting 3 coats of urethane. Here are the updated pictures. I should have her back in 2 weeks so I can start install the gray interior. http://www.informx.com/fiero

If the car looks as good as the panels do, you're going to have one heckuva ride! Looks like your painter is really trying to do a good job. Best of luck with your project.
I know you said you want a Formula eventually, but the base 88 coupe has proven to be an excellent starting point for an engine swap, if you're so inclined.

Well, It depends on my daughter. If she want this 88 I'll start a new Formula. If she decides she does not want a Fiero, I'll start aquiring parts for a swap. Maybe give the wallet a little breather first.
It's now week 3 in the bodyt shop. We are on schedule and on budget for the paint job. I spoke with the body shop manager, He feels I can schedule a flat bed truck for Friday.
I sure hope so, I'm getting real antsy to start re-assembling.
From the pics your project Fiero is looking great. I hope your daughter appreciates all the hard work the you and the body shop are putting into it. Could you ask the body shop guys what they did to sand down all the body panels for me. Did they hand sand it with a block or use an electric sander? I have two paint jobs on all my panels and need to get all the paint off. Some info from the professionals at the body shop would be useful. If you could e-mail me this I would really appreciate it. Can't wait to see the final results and welcome to the best Fiero Forum on the web.
Well, Today was to be the day I got the FireAnt out of the body shop. But, as you can guess it's not going to happen.
The rear facia had been repaired before, and not done well. While it was white the repair did not show. Rich, the guy doing the work told me it would never be "right" painted black. I did not want to always look at the car and say to myself "I should have..."
Thanks to a kind forum member I have a rear 88 faica on the way down. As soon as it arrives by bus I'll get it over to the shop for prep.
Yes, we will miss schedule by 1 week, but there is still lots to do. I don't want to rush it, I want it right.
I have posted updated pictures, including a shot of the right front hood where Rich was showing me what it will look like buffed out and REALLY ready to deliver. http://www.informx.com/fiero

Looks like you're doing it right. It's a good thing that it's going back together. It looked like you were running out of places to put the parts.
We have a similar project on our yellow 88 coupe. We gutted the interior & replaced the seats, carpet, inner door panels, dew wipes replaced the tach & I'm now putting in the headliner
Welcome to the forum!

Hi, Thanks again to all for the kind words. Well today is the day. I stopped by the body shop on the way to work. IT'S DONE. They are doing final cleanup. Later this afternoon she takes a ride on the back of a flatbed truck home. Then it's into the garage for FINAL assembly! I guess I'll have to do a new sig picture soon. I posted the "latest" pictures. See the bottom pictures 40 thru 46. http://www.informx.com/fiero
