I bought a Northstar engine, and had to share the results of the teardown.... There must have been a massive defect in the #3 piston, because... well... it's gone. Well, kinda. Take a look:

Notice one of the rings Not sure where the others went.

Oh yeah - and it punched a hole in the top part of the block, hidden by the intake manifold... I was washing off the engine outside and, "hey... there's water coming out the oil drain hole! "

And where was this engine bought from? Dang looks like someone ran too much nitrous.

It was bought from a forum member for pretty cheap... I don't know what happened, but more than likely the piston either had a defect, or it partially melted, and self-destructed.

I sold him the engine, but I honestly didn't know what it was like internally. Still, makes me feel bad.

Ha... I could. I found the rest of the piston underneath the intake manifold, and upon closer inspection, the connecting rod is bent like 15 degrees. Just insane...
