Hey Aus, That better not be $600 Oz Dollars!!

No more pics for right now but I thought I'd post an update on works.

I replaced the front wiring harness with one from an '88 coupe I found in the wrecking yard. I also replace the fan and headlights with '88 parts. The new lights are much more reliable, as is the fan!

I also replaced the radiator with one from an '87 GT. Since I built-up the engine the original radiator was just not quite holding the temp under 180 (new thermostat in case you were wondering) while in traffic. I had to kick the fan on from time to time to cool it off.

But the V-6 radiator is 1 inch taller and 3/4 of an inch wider; it has larger tanks too. It seems to be handling the added heat perfectly. I'm glad because I really did not want to go get a 4-core unit and fork over $300 for it.

I'm repairing a tear in the front facia and I've removed the ground effects in preparation for the new paint...just days away now!! Mwuhahahaaaaaa

The car goes to the paint shop as soon as I can fix the rear bumper. When we moved I got rear ended driving the car to the new house by some dingy in a rice wagon. She got $4500 in damage, I just need a new bumper... $50.

If that isn't reason enough to own a Fiero I don't know what is.

OK, here are the latest pics.

I took the car to the paint shop this morning after a LOT of body work.

1) pull out rear bumper and pound out caved in trunk. straighten and re-weld the rear frame and repaint.

2) fix front fender damage

3) repair trunk lock hole

4) replace front facia (beyond effective repair) with one from an '85 GT I found in the wrecking yard. sand and blend.

5) remove ALL trim and accessories.

6) repair all nicks, gouges, and scratches.

7) wet sand 400,800,1200,2000

8) haul it to the paint shop!

What was the problem with the rough running engine after you installed it? What did you do to fix it?

Yes. It turned out to be a stuck fuel regulator. I just rebuilt the TB and it runs like a champ!

I pick-up the car from the paint shop yesterday and I'll have pics soon.

THEN...on to the brakes and suspension!! I have a lowering kit with new KYBs and front and rear anti-sway bars with poly all around. I'll detail the installation

Looking good Todd... I'll have to stop by and check it out.

Nice repair work on that rear end. All you needed was a rubber mallet and a little welding.

Too true. But the $1500 was really to get the car running and registered again. Mission accomplished.

Now that I have some extra cash I am going to the next level.

I'm also going to add a 4T60 tranny.

UPDATE:

The car is back from the paint shop and it looks great.

I've already started putting it back together as you can see in the photos. I have re-attached the mirrors and replaced the door locks with new ones. I have also replace the inner and outer dew strips. I will put the rest of the exterior trim on this weekend.

Well here the car is with the all the trim and decals on. I still have to do some minor work but take a look at the "WS6 Performance Package" emblem I snagged off a Trans Am on the rear bumper. Snazzy!

I also installed a subwoofer. This is not easy since the '84 did not have a subwoofer as an option so I'm starting a new thread with the procedure here with LOTSA pics. https://www.fiero.nl/forum/Forum2/HTML/044712.html

For those asking what happened to the "before" pics I've reposted them. Go back to page one to see what it looked like when I picked it up from the wrecking yard.

Well, I've finally got the engine running right. Needed a new O2 sensor and the disty hold down bolt was loose so I retightened it and the car is running like a dream.

It's a postcard day here today so I too a drive to San Jose in it to get some bolts and opened it up for the first time now that I have over 500 miles on the new engine. He he he.

We have a stretch of 8 lane highway between Morgan Hill and San Jose that is just 12 miles of wide open bliss. I had it up to 100 with plenty of power and pedal left. There was more traffic on the road than I would care for so I didn't push it any mroe but suffice it to say it runs as if the stickers on the doors actually MEAN something!
